Good award destinations for VFF points?

Hi folks,

I'm likely to fall to Gold from Plat this year, and after that my work travel is likely to be trending down in the next few years (although I've said that before!) so I'm thinking about burning off most of my points (not a huge stash by the standards around here, but enough for a return in J just about anywhere) and leaving me with an option of moving to a different airline if my travel kicks up again.

So, I'm wondering can anyone think of interesting long haul J destinations that are easily accessible for a VFF redemption that I might struggle to get to on other programs?

Cheers,

Danny

How many points do you have? J to LAX with VA or anywhere in Europe with EY is usually the best use.

For something different I've used points to go to Samoa in September -apart from NZ I don't think any other alliance airlines fly there so that is an example of an unusual destination to use points for.

About 270,000 points I think, so enough for a J award just about anywhere.

Yeah, the US is attractive (haven't been there on holiday for a while) but I figure that if I do end up changing to a new FF scheme it will definitely be with someone that will let me get to LAX! Wondering if there is anywhere that is particularly accessible with VFF... I hadn't thought about Pacific Islands, that's definitely an option. Although they're close so maybe they can just be to burn off some remaining points after a really long haul trip.

Does VA have any scheduled flights into SE Asia on A330? I seem to recall KUL mentioned but I am possibly confusing that with AUH.

A330s are (still) only flown on East Coast to Perth, VA do fly a 777 SYD to AUH (Edit: Me thinks your thinking of how EY wet lease VAs 777 for some flights to KUL, rather than the aircraft just parked idle at AUH - Atleast if I remember the trip report posted here awhile ago)
SIN has been rumoured for awhile to have the A330s, but unlikely at this stage....

Oh. So the 777 does SYD-AUH and return but then Etihad operates same aircraft AUH-KUL. Thanks.

Yeah, it seems like the hopes we all had for VA international expansion fade with each announcement :(.
