Gold status question

Morning folks,

So I finally ticked over to Gold last night (took a while with my only trips this year being MEL-SYD-MEL).

Anyway, I have a few flights already booked as a Silver member, do I get Gold perks on these upcoming flights or is it based on what my status was at the time?

Sorry if it seems like a stupid question but I just wanted to be certain.

On another note, how does seating class work?

Is it based on your type of ticket (saver, economy, premium economy) ? Or is it status? Or perhaps a mix of the two.

I've normally only been able to get seats 8 and further and was hoping that getting to Gold would open up closer seats.

Congrats on the status upgrade! You're certainly entitled to gold status perks for flights flown - not just booked - from now on. In practice, however, the status in old bookings tends to be "stale". I'd try and remove / reapply your Velocity number to existing bookings to pick up your new status. If you can't do this online you might have to call them up.

You'll then see the seatmap open up. Seat allocation seems to be driven by status, rather than fare type (with the obvious exception of business class, or premium economy on the trans-tasman routes).

Ah good stuff. I'll be gold on Monday, and have a flight next Friday that has been pre allocated 9C. I have held off on making the further bookings until gold has been reached to avoid the issue of 'stale' bookings. This weekend's flights won't be an issue as they are J class anyway.

Can J class passengers use the kerbside entrance in SYD without gold or platinum status?

How do you remove and reapply the velocity number? Is it possible to do this online when one flight from the same PNR has already been flown?

All rows available from 3 onwards (except business class of course, may use some points to try it out sometime though).

I'm a Gold and I get 3C on almost every flight, infact 39 of the last 40 sectors would have been 3C and the only time I didn't get it was when I was bumped for 5D for one of Seal's entourage when he was flying J a few week ago MEL-OOL.

As a silver I have used it many times when fly J ex SYD.

Yes, I did it last weekend. Be aware though that they can't accept checkin luggage at this stage. If you have carry on only you'll be fine.

In SYD when I've got baggage, I go and check-in at the normal priority desk, then walk back outside and go through the kerbside entry. No line at security and straight into the lounge

The lounge membership still shows on my Velocity account, as do 5 single lounge passes. What happens to the lounge membership and passes now with Gold Status? Both seem fairly useless now.

You get a refund!

If you earn Gold, there will be a pro-rata refund of the unused portion of the Lounge membership.

I have a question which is kind of the reverse of a comment made early in this thread about Gold benefits when booked as a silver.

I have flights booked for later in the year which I booked as Gold, so itinerary shows Gold luggage amounts included in the ticket. When I go to fly though I'll only be silver... Which one will apply... or do gold and silver get the same amounts anyway? (in which case, can I pose the hypothetical for 12mnths time, if I book as a silver then fly as nothing... do you get any luggage allowance?!)

Good question, I don't know but yes they are different weight allowances for silver and gold (23 v 32kg)

As for the other question, I'm sure someone else will know the answer.
