Hi All-
I will be short of 20 status credits to retain Velocity Gold this year. What is the cheapest way to retain the membership by flying from Sydney . Also one of the mates in another forum suggested that Velocity will consider the situation and may continue with the Gold membership based on the long time history and future travel prospects . Any experience will be worth accepted

I would suggest that a return in Y on a saver fare to OOL or BNK would be the cheapest at under $200 and even cheaper when combined with a promo code. As you have status I would recommend OOL over BNK due to OOL having a lounge and not a bad one at that.
Additionally, I would check out happy hour on Thursday afternoons but lately they have been for dates late in the year or early 2017 which isn't terribly useful.

I'm in a similar position, except I need 80 status credits (see a post I made in the SC run master thread - can't link yet due to post count - that should be fixed soon I hope :))

I have about 22K Altitude Rewards points from a Westpac card - can I use them to gain the SC I need??

You could use the points on "any seat reward" but they are very poor value

That's just 11000 Velocity points so not much use to you. Also, reward seat don't get SC's.

OK, thats a bummer. My pipe dream was to convert my Altitude rewards directly to 80+ SC's. Oh well. I'll have to fly. :p

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes i understand that but the amount that are charged for a short flight would not be worth it. So i was really pointing towards standard reward seats. 11000 won't get you much at all.

Definitely OOL, pick up a saver fare (I haven't had great luck with Happy Hour recently) and take a short trip up to the coast. The lounge is actually quite nice and it's quite a scenic approach turning and descending over the mountains, then skimming the sea on final approach.

I was investigating the route for my own status run (was 5 SC short of hitting Platinum for the first time, had to travel by 20th August) luckily work intervened and flew me up to BNE on the company dollar yesterday anyway. Now just have to wait until the SC post :)

SYD - OOL is my standard end-of-qualifying-year status run. If I needed 20 SC's i'd find a cheap, Wednesday evening run, head up after work, have a toastie and a beer in the lounge at OOL and be home in time for bed. Much cheaper than BNE or MEL which are the other obvious ones.

I needed 25 SCs which is a hard number to get exactly. Just booked SYD-TSV return which is normally 30SCs with the direct flight but that has become overpriced so had to go via BNE and I end up earning 40SCs. What a waste!

SYD - OOL return, one in flexi and one in saver. Use the upgrade for flexi and get J class (although some may argue it's a waste... Unless you have one left over....)
