Does anyone have experience of the travel insurance provided free to gold and platinum visa card holders? Travelling to UK and Europe for 5 weeks. Self driving in UK and coach tour in Europe. Should I take out addition al travel insurance?

i would suggest looking through the PDS for the travel insurance you are getting and see what it covers you for.

Since u are driving it will hopefully cover you for excess and therefore save u the disgusting prices most care hire companies charge to waive the $2500 excess.

You should see what limitations the insurance has so u can dsecide if it meets your needs.

travel insurance direct (TDI) are a relatively cheap and popular insurance provider.

Thanks Jeffrey, I have done that and it seems ok. I have also spoken to ANZ staff who provided contact details in case of a claim. The only requirement was to have used the card for at least A$250 of the travel costs.

We travelled to Italy and Croatia for about 5 weeks using only the travel insurance provided by the ANZ Platinum card. It covered everything. There is an excess of $200 per item. Just check the medical exclusions. We made a claim for lost luggage and broken camera when we returned and had no dramas. Keep receipts. The insurance covered the excess of car hire too. Good luck.
