Woohoo.. i'm finally going to qualify for GOLD frequent flyer status.

I'm getting 200 status credits flying business class PER to ADL to MEL then return to PER.

Do GOLD card holders get better seats than SILVER card holders on QuickCheck? (ie more forward seats)

Also, does anyone know if you get priority baggage and extra baggage allowance on OW carriers like Cathay? I checked the Qantas website, but only mentions priority checkin for OW Sapphire.

Has anyone noticed a difference booking award flights if you have a GOLD card? Do you get more available flights?

thanks

On Quickcheck, it's every man for himself I believe. As a gold, your seating preference will be selected ahead of silver members when the pre-allocation is performed the night before

Priority baggage handling and additional allowance is only when travelling on Qantas flights; these are not OneWorld benefits. As a OW Sapphire travelling on an OW airline, you are entitled to business class check in and business class lounge access

There is additional availability in economy class when booking award economy class flights on Qantas

Hi Chucksta

Although strictly speaking you won’t be entitled to get priority tagging on Cathay my experience is that you will.

Generally Cathay treats Qantas Elites better than Qantas. I have received a number of upgrades and always find that their service is excellent.

PS If you are flying through HK make sure you use the Cathay lounge (much better than the Qantas lounge).

Enjoy your gold status

When you attain GOLD there is the additional option of inserting your seating preference. Make sure that you go into your profile on the QF website and pick your preference so they know what yo9u want. I've found them to be particularly good with this.

As Dave mentions, additional baggage allowance and priority baggage handling are not published OneWorld benefits. However, in my experience, AA, BA and CX are all happy to add priority tags to checked bags. But also in my experience, priority tags do not guarantee priority handling or delivery on many airlines (AA is notoriously bad for ignoring such tags and BA does not provide priority handling on domestic and European services).

But also as Dave says, you only get the additional checked baggage allowance when flying on QF services. This is consistent with the published benefits.
