If you have a look in the thread on Communication and Internet, you'll find quite a few posts with similar questions and different options/opinions. Telestial, Maxroam and gosim seem quite popular.

I had a good experience with Woolworths Global Roaming SIM. Their rates in Europe are excellent.

Rates may be, but the data is pretty expensive and easy to go over the limits in the packages I would think....

eg. on holidays I tend to use mapping and internet lookup a lot more.

Depends where you travel I guess. With woolies sim I got 1GB UK data bundle for $21.00. Did the trick for my whole stay in UK. Their european bundles are bit more expensive but still quite good value compared to regular data roaming charges.

Roaming no, but even the most remote countries have good local SIMS, in fact have had some superbly cheap sims in what some would regard as 3rd world countries, good reception and just amazingly cheap. Sometimes we are not as advanced as we think we are (though remore recption can certainly be a problem)!
