I am a self-funded flyer and even with the recent cancellation still have bookings enough to maintain Platinum, included a DSC run in July. The current round of flight and border closures are until the of April. Fellow AFFers are cancelling flights between May and June, if not further. If my May tour is cancelled I won’t requalify. It is the uncertainty that gets to us all.

The airlines have enough on their plates without looking at our relatively minor concerns this soon. In the fullness of time, we shall see.

Does anyone know how vouchers are working for tickets booked through TAs. I used up an explorer credit for an NZ DSC run at the end of april. Safe to say chances of being able to fly are nil.

Is there any way i'm going to be able to retain the DSC PNR when making changes through amex?

I did 3 bookings earlier in the offer (SYD-HNL-SYD, SYD-MEL-SYD and SYD-CBR-SYD), was going to buy a Vocuher yesterday but ran out of time. Now that the offer is extended might go ahead.

Is my understanding that purchased Vouchers (as opposed to those given as part of a cancellation) are valid for 3 years correct? So i fi buy $100 voucher today and then use it towards travel within the period of this promo, will I earn DSC on those flight (despte whatever $ i need to top up)? On the rare chance i dont fly anywhere else before Feb next year, the voucher will still be fine to use for up to 2 years beyond that right but without the DSC?
I have not seen that terms and conditions for this promotion are different to any previous promotion so my answer will be yes to DSCs for flights taken during the promotion period.

Hi,

Just have a question regarding my booking I made during the DSC
I booked my flight to Paris with 2 different bookings.

First booking from SYD-HKG using QF.
Second booking using Classic Flight Rewards HKG-CDG.

I know we can link the booking together but am I keeping the PNR ?

What are you looking to do with the bookings? Are your flights cancelled?

Hi, I think I have a curly one, does anyone know how you work out the value of a fare remaining for a multi city trip that has already commenced. Just wondering if I am better of changing the dates over taking a credit voucher. I had booked CBR-MEL-SYD-DPS return under DSC and flew out on the 28/2/20. I returned on the 3/3/20 and paid a change fee to delay the SYD-MEL-CBR return leg until this weekend, 22/3/20. As status has been extended I am thinking I change the date, post 30 June in a new status year, to say December, as I am not sure the value of the credit will cover rebooking these fees in Business (D) as they are now.

From Amex:

This is to confirm we have processed the ticket in your booking as airline credit which can be used for future flights with Qantas, travel up to 25 February 2021.

The original PNRs (2 bookings made) hopefully will produce DSCs

Got an interim response to my email query to QFF on Saturday, re the DSC booking I cancelled on Thursday (despite the voucher confirmation screen they continued to email me about OLCI and the like). In effect the response was, "if you haven't heard anything in 2 weeks, email us again". Hopefully won't get the same response when I try again in 2 weeks.

And my view on this is that if it works.. GREAT!! and if it doesn't I do not jump up and down and make a song and dance about it. It's the nature of the game.

At the end of the day, either way, some CC fees are saved - that's a certainty :)
Jump up and down and make a song and dance. I have always received the SCs I am entitled to receive.

The only issue with gift vouchers and double SCs this time is there may not be much time left to complete travel before the end of the promotion period.

Yes, so have I because I have been careful about the way I've done it.

My point was that at any time this little "feature" could change. I wasn't saying it doesn't work now. Every year this comes up I have been confident about it and not surprised when it works but I am also aware that QF know about it and may decide to invest in changing things should they wish. And I would not make a "song and dance" about it if they did. That was all.

Anyone considered what will become of parked (vouchered) DSC bookings given the ‘new flexibility’ now promised By QF. Mrs Pineapple has a couple of DSC bookings parked in voucher land, with Pineapple still waiting. However I suspect this promised enhancement may queer the pitch...

Using flight credits and multi-use functionality
We're working hard to improve the conditions applicable to our flight credits. If your original booking was made before 30 April 2020, and you were due to travel on a Qantas flight between 31 January and 30 September 2020, your flight credit can be used across multiple future bookings. This will be updated in our system from June 2020. Further details will be provided shortly.

Now, if one applied the old rule of thumb - a vouchered DSC booking is still a DSC booking once it is rebooked (assuming the right time frame etc) - this enhancement would suggest one could turn one vouchered DSC booking into say half a dozen DSC bookings.

That sounds way too good to be true. My thinking is that the vouchered bookings will just turn into bundles of money that will lose their DSC status once rebooked.

whaddaya reckon?

cheers skip.

I agree. My thinking is DSC only applied to a certain time frame, now elapsed.

They only mentioned bookings through to the end of April, so could well be just converting all vouchered cancellations into (new) GV's, devoid of any DSC blessing.

It could be that if you don’t use the full GV you get a new PNR for the balance. Will be interesting to see what is implemented.

I hope this is the case! It makes sense, but who knows with QF & IT...

I was hoping this too. This is how they handle gift vouchers. Not knowing what changes have been made and how they will handled in their system, only time will tell.

I love it how we are still talking DSC!
I think it will be interesting to see how it all pans out... over the next 12 months.
With their flying base decimated, I wonder if QF will promote things like DSC even more aggressively, or take the chance to reset? The current lounge situation, for example.... must cost them a fortune to run. Let's just say that domestic takes 6 months (at least) to return to even 50% (I am just making these numbers up but when you look at the number of codeshare flights QF operate with foreign carriers... they certainly will reduce capacity). So with a flying base of less than 50%, it won't make sense for them to operate all their lounges, and if they consolidate into a single Qantas Club, there are no perks for Plats. And no international travel means no First lounges either... so what exactly are they offering to the elite members? If they can't offer all that, people won't bother to attempt to attain the lofty heights of Plat or Plat1....

What do people reckon?

Also, Air New Zealand acquiring VA, operating a new Star Alliance airline..... anyone?
