The glass shelf above the food service area in Mel just shattered - glass all over the floor and in all of the food. Some interesting looks from the staff, not least from the poor lady who was replacing the fruit bowl on the shelf when it exploded! Needless to say, not a lot of food on the agenda here for quite a while - hope they do an excellent clean up.

They'd better do a good cleanup. One piece of glass in food taken by the next patron and QF will be in for a very, very, very expensive remediation.

Uggh!

I hope to be there tomorrow morning ... :(

Doubt you'll get food it will be a big job to repair.

I was there a couple of minutes after it occurred and there was glass everywhere.

The staff were barricading the area off and then starting the clean up. They had large bins and were sweeping glass up. I'd suggest every bit of food will be disposed of and then a huge clean up and then repairs can start. I reckon it will either an all night job or 24 hours before it will reopen.

I'll be back tomorrow night to report on how it goes.

At the moment I am in the CBR J lounge dining on some wickedly delicious chicken wings.

Presumably they will just discard all the food that was there.

Engineering must have had a rush order last night.

A matt off white laminated piece of (what looks like) MDF has been located in place of the glass.

Hot breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausages sauteed mushrooms and baked beans was available.:D

And a very nice chicken dish this evening in the remodelled food area. They must've worked very hard last night to get it done,

Good on them.

Tempered glass shelf - I'll bet she caught the glass bowl on the edge of the shelf and gave the edge a "tap". From the top or bottom tempered glass is incredibly strong, but hit it on the edge it a whole different story. It's pretty amazing to see it done (my hobby is kiln formed glass and this is one of the "watch this" tricks.
