beardoc - what flights have you found from MEL to Tokyo?

You're right, I can't do this - I could have sworn the oneworld interactive map allowed me to do this a day or two ago, but I was mistaken. I've updated my original post to make it MEL-HKG-ICN, but it doesn't affect the total number of status credits, so I'm not worried. I'll go to TYO again on a future DONE3 (which I've mentioned further up!)

Difficult to get seats a lot of the time though :(
I have flown these flights in A. When I booked in August for June the next year the flights had not been loaded, so I booked OPEN tickets.

I rechecked regularly and when they became available in early November, I was able to snaffle the seats.

Of couse, some GDS/Agnets may have an issue with e-ticketed open segments, so perhaps the booking could be left for When the seats become available, or, indeed, one could stump up the USD125 to reroute.

My TA has recommended booking in L with a waitlist in "A" which would clear automatically.

In the end I didn't need to do this though so don't know how it works in practice.

serfty - when reticketing for rerouting mid-itinerary flights, is there a corresponding repricing of the fare as well taxes? For example, if the prices have risen since the start of the month, would the ticket have to be reissued at the higher price?

Before travel commences, the ticket may be re-priced depending on the continent of original/booking GDS/Carrier booking etc.

After commencement of travel the USD125 fee + any service fees + any new taxes relating to the changes is payable. This is as per the xONEx rules.

I have never rebooked in this way - only revalidated.

One segment ... but it does depend on ensuring it's ticketed properly.

e.g. If you have ticketed QF107 SYD-JFK that counts as one segment; if ticketed QF107 SYD-LAX and QF107 LAX-JFK that's two. (Although you may fall foul of "Married Segment" rules if on the same day.)

What are the the "married segment" rules?

I'm finding a few other options that are quite lengthy (over 1200 miles) on single flight number with AA that go to non-hub cities like ABQ that I want to travel to without using up too many segments on my DONE3/4. An example would be PHL-ABQ (which has one flight a day direct, and all the others are connecting via DFW):

06:00 PHL A 10:10 ABQ AA1675 1 Stop 6hr 10 min M80

I was thinking I could get to a number of the interesting places that aren't hub cities in the US using these "two flights via DFW on a single flight number". So how does one go about getting these flights ticketed correctly?

It's a pity that Mileagemonkey doesn't accept these these as it seems to think that they're not direct flights and therefore they're not on the timetable. But the Oneworld Map seems to think that they're direct, and therefore it should be right for a single segment if it is booked correctly, right?

I know serfty suggests above that it should be okay, but I'm thinking of marrying up a lot of these "single flight number with two flights" segments to move around the USA, and want to make sure that I'm not doing the wrong thing somehow. Don't want to be barking up the wrong tree here!
