Gifts for cabin crew

I wonder whether gifts for cabin crew will be constituted as corruption, where it migh force or incentivise air stewarts provide goods or services for unfair advantage?
Could you expand on that a little?

if they aren't eaten, it is left for the next crew (depending where the aircraft goes next).
I did ask about this, why not pass it on to the next team. Apparently on international routes , crew are not allowed to leave anything on board - including food items even in crew quarters. It has to be consumed or disposed and not left for the next team. Perhaps it depends on airline policy?

There's literally 17 pages discussing this. TL;DR? Allow me to summarise:
  • It is widely suggested gifting creates an obligation or an awkwardness for the crew and it is speculated that gifting is done to receive, or hope to receive, preferential treatment.
  • Gifters, however, do not see it that way-
  • If you gift at boarding:
    • you do so solely out of genuine appreciation for the hard work and excellent effort by the crew, even if that hasn't happened yet. Any reciprocation or preferential treatment during the flight or at exit, which may or may not be related to the gifting, is unwarranted and completely unexpected, but nonetheless accepted.
  • In the far less common event of gifting at exit or are a familiar or casual acquaintance of crew:
    • you have done so solely out of genuine appreciation for the hard work and excellent effort by the crew. Any reciprocation was unwarranted and completely unexpected but nonetheless accepted.
  • Reports or posts relating to similar behaviour towards ground staff or similar service roles (eg waiters, hotel clerks) are somewhat less common.
  • There's no right or wrong, only benevolent or cynical.

Perhaps that has something to do with the title of this particular thread ;)

Pretty much sums it up. Only the gift giver truly knows their intention and expectation (if any). I have no doubt that if you poll enough people, you'd get a mix of folks who gift out of appreciation and those who gift with the hope or expectation of quid pro quo. Similarly, there will be those who believe others can gift without expectation of anything in return, and those who will always believe there must be an ulterior motive. Basically, it's a case of each to their own.
