Hi all, I have an issue with a gift voucher purchased last February. I intended to purchase 5 x $50 vouchers, but I thought I inadvertently purchased 1 x $250 voucher. I wasn't really bothered about that, but I have just tried to use it, and discovered that it's not in fact 1 x $250 voucher, it's a voucher for 5 passengers at $50 each! I don't know how I managed to do that, but it was certainly not my intention (I have a family of 4 including myself).

The problem is that when redeeming these vouchers, the system forces you to book for the specified number of people, and the T&Cs state that the number of passengers on a voucher can’t be changed. Does anyone know of any way around that? If not, I assume my best option is to use this voucher for a cheap one way flight and just write off the fifth fare? E.g. 5 x $110 Red E-Deal fares = $550, so the net cost using the voucher would be $300, compared to $440 if I just purchased 4 fares normally. In effect that would make my $250 voucher worth just $140. It’s obviously not the end of the world if I have accept that but just wondering if anyone knows of a better option?

Also note the expiry, my gift voucher purchased last Feb is due to expire this February. The expiry date hasn't been extended, unlike my vouchers for cancelled bookings.

note this isn't a problem as I need to fly soon.

Disagree. GV's have three year validity from purchase. This change was made per the law change in NSW some years back. So either way a GV purchased in Feb, 2020 would be valid till Feb, 2023.

I understand that point. disagree away, I'm just reporting what the website said...

I have noticed this before. This is, I reckon, a bug.

I don't know why this is still an issue for QF as the law changed ages ago and they admit/agree it's three years from date of purchase but for some reason the dates shown still have the year.

I guess if anyone is ever in doubt calling QF would clarify I imagine. I do understand in this case it isn't an issue due to intended use.

and I do have skin in this game myself as I have a number purchased last Feb. I am sure nobody has any idea why :D

My GVs purchased last Feb all include the statement "Gift Vouchers are valid for 3 years from date of issue".

When I check online it doesn't say what the expiry is, it just says "For specific information about this flight credit and the expiry, refer to the terms and conditions on your flight credit" (even though it's a GV, not a flight credit). Anyway, there is no ambiguity about this in my case - it's clearly a 3 year expiry.

By the way, I called QF as suggested by a couple of people (thanks!), and they were happy to split the problem GV up. No idea if that's a P1 thing or if they would have done it anyway.

I was just thrown by the T&Cs, which state "The names of the gift voucher recipients may be changed when you redeem the gift voucher, but the number of recipients cannot be changed (you can't increase or decrease the total number of recipients)". No idea why the T&Cs say that if it's not actually the case? Anyway, I'm happy to have this resolved.
