Is this realistic at the moment? I had a look and there's hardly anything from any East coast city to anwyhere in the US. I would be happy flying to LAX/SFO/DFW/NYC, or really anywhere I can get a J award seat.

Alternatively does anyone know of any clever J fares from Australia that earn QF points and status credits?

I have about 200k QF points at present.

Thanks

Best chance may be via Japan .

Good point. Late May/early June for something like 10-14 days. Happy to book just one way at this stage

J seats direct from east coast to US are generally snapped up 10 months out from travel. Best chance is to search for departure days that are less popular with holiday makers and busines stravellers i.e Departing/Returning on Monday or Tuesday rather than a weekend. You could get lucky, especially with A380 coming back online, but my gut says way too late unless somone cancels and the seat is re-released.

But right now QF arent flying to SFO or JFK, only LAX and DFW, so only half the usual options as well.

Unfortunately you're way too late most likely - specially for QF metal given there is not that much going over the next few months. If you have Platinum (or higher) status you could potentially request a seat release, but even that is iffy given the small amount of capacity on the routes...

And given JL (as above) is not a current option, and CX used to be an option but is not due to HK current situation, you could POSSIBLY try to see if there's a seat on FJ (via NAN) but unlikely.

You may have to plan for much later in the year or next year to attempt to use points unfortunately.

And even if and when they are released, they only release 1 or 2 seats and not on all flights they operate. Midweek departures maybe easier to obtain? They are normally snapped up by desperate platinum or gold ff.

If you are travelling solo you can pick up the odd seat.

I managed to grab an F seat LAX-SYD in October and only booked it a few weeks ago. There were quite a few J seats on various dates when I was looking. But I imagine if I was looking for more than one there would have been far less.

At the end of the day, some people who book award seats will change or cancel and free them up, so you could be in luck at any moment.

Just curious if you know for a fact if canxd reward seats end up going back as available QF award inventory? I’ve seen the opposite referred to on here before. Hopefully they are!

If seen it myself when on an award flight, if I change it, my old flight became available almost straight away.

This may or may not happen - the closer to flight time the less likely it gets.

I would not rely in it.

Better to make a new booking if there is availability and see it ticketed before cancelling the old.

They may, or may not, go back into inventory.
