Hey.

I can't find an answer to this anywhere so hoping this hasn't been asked 1k times.

Anyway the Mrs has a business class ticket booked Syd to Perth. We're trying to find out if she cancels how long does it take to get the flight credits ? She doesn't want a refund just the credits. Been Googling it and taking turns waiting on the phone over the last 3 days but the line usually cuts out and it's a pain to start all over again.'

Cheers

The couple of times I've done it, it has been maybe 30 minutes then you get an email with the original booking reference showing that it is now a flight credit. It also appears in your Qantas account as a credit

At the moment it seems to be taking a long time, previously it would be done within the hour.

Now it seems to be days.

Do you intend to rebook another Syd to Perth flight? Generally speaking, it's cheaper to use the change flight option than to get credit then book using credit.

Thanks heaps for that. Only I know refunds are about 8 weeks and the Mrs was worried that the credits might take weeks as well.

Much appreciated.

I think the girls (Mrs and her friends) want to go to Singapore instead, so they're going in June want the credits to snag a flight.

Since domestic J fares are refundable, I'd take the money. It may take 8 weeks, but at least there is absolutely no conditions attached (no restriction on fare type, expiry date, passenger names, etc).

Yeah might be a good idea.

Mrs got the credits yesterday. So the only way we could work out to use these credits is the Redeem Credits or something. Sweet, but takes you to this coughpy 3rd rate page not like their main booking page and really limited choices.

Mrs saying she left like a being chucked off to this coughpy page like who cares, here pick one of these. Never done this before but yeah, maybe take the $$ and look elsewhere.

yeah the "coughpy page" is the old interface which they still use for credits (and gift vouchers) because of the clunky way those things have been bolted on to Amadeus. And yes, I fully agree.

Yet another Qantas farce (hence the IATA designator: QF).
Went to redeem a Qantas Credit for a simple MEL-LST-MEL flight in May

Instead of just choosing flights from the "normal" page and then applying the credit, the system takes you to some obscure page which contains only a limited choice, I'm assuming its a fare bucket thing..

Same flights, same "Red-e Deal - Starter" fares type.
Credit booking: $351
Normal booking: $226

55% more expensive to use a credit on the same flights, same fare type????
C'mon, how do they get away with it?

the "obscure page" is linked to the kludge way credits were implemented on top of Amadeus.
the price change is indeed a booking class issue, and has to do with the T&C of flight credits needing to be of equal to or higher value than the original fare purchased. This has been a long standing thing.

now there was a point where that condition was apparently being waived by QF and one could call (ugh good luck) and book at the lower price, but the system still does enforce this (and I'm not sure if that waiver is still in place or not).

this is why QF is (very slowly) moving towards Travel Passses which don't involve any of this nonsense and are far more flexible to use.

I understand the T&C aspect. That doesn't make it ethical given I didn't have any choice other than to accept the T&C otherwise I'd have forfeited the funds on the original "refundable fare".
As an aside, there were some flights that were actually cheaper using the credit (times not suitable for my needs). So why aren't those cheaper buckets available on the normal booking page? Seems arbitrary to me.

I think everyone agrees that what they are doing is wrong but if you already have the flight credit then what can you do? You can call (ugh!) and ask for the lower price or just pay the extra and be done with it. I'm sure a lot of people have chosen the latter.

How's this for a scam from Qantas!
Trying to book flights to London with a $2340 travel credit. Outbound flight has to be "Saver" fare (sale fares all sold out), which is $1195, but on the way back there are "sale" options including this $1170 grey outed option.

I should be theoretically be able to select it as it would take my new airfare to $2365, but it allows me to select the more expensive sale fare with no problem. Looks like Qantas trying to scam credit passengers out of even more money.

I agree it's BS but I suspect the reason for this is even though your new airfare is higher, the base fare (so not including taxes and surcharges) may be lower. I know fares out of LHR may have lots of charges, and also just fares with that many sectors in general.
