For various reasons I have been looking into ways to get out of Perth to take advantage of cheap business class fares from Asia to the Middle East and Europe.
This has been made both necessary and difficult by the exit of QFi from all Perth routes.
A flight PER-DXB costs the same as a flight PER-DXB-LHR (or any EK destination in Europe) and is much less likely to be on sale.
Looking at flights leading up to Easter the cheapest QF could offer was between $2400 and $3600 for a one way flight to SIN, KUL or BKK.
And those options would also cost a day of my time, wasted flying PER-SYD/MEL/BNE on QFd to pick up the QFi leg.

The best option I could find was to pay $735 for a VA flight PER-DPS, then $380 DPS-KUL.
From KUL I could pick up cheap flight options to the middle east and beyond.

Anyone found any clever cheap options to get from Perth to an Asian hub in business?
Preferably earning with either one world or a VA partner airline.

Note: please don't question the strategy of getting to an Asian hub to access cheap fares, there are reasons why that works for me which won't be apparent to others.

You could look at purchasing some Alaskan Miles to redeem on CX, AV LM to redeem on TG or SQ or even transfer some VA Velocity points to SQ KF as award availability might be better via SQ compared to their partner airlines.

Once you have done your initial positioning flight to Asia it's worth pricing return fares ex Asia in J so you can next your return sector for another time eg BKK/PER/BKK on TG, SIN/PER/SIN on SQ or HKG/PER/HKG on CX.

I've seen J fares on AY ex BKK to Europe for as low as AUD2,640.00 return including taxes and there have also been good J fares ex SIN on UL & other carriers to Europe.
