Just doing some forward planing for the middle of next year. Trying to get 1 (possibly 2 seats) in J from Syd to Kef next year. Can use Sq points to fly Sq to Muc, Fra then Lh to Kef but LH awards do not show up on Sq website. Do I need to ring Sq for LH awards?
Another possible routing is Sq to Cph, then SAS to Kef. Again SAS award flights don't seem to show up on the Sq website.
Can I check award availability for SAS and LH flights with United.com?

Also any other suggestions to get to Kef from Syd rtn in J using Sq points would be great and appreciated.

Yes, use United website to check for LH/SK availability and then call KrisFlyer to book. (You may also have more success checking SYD-FRA/MUC/CPH and FRA/MUC/CPH-KEF individually on the SQ website, then calling to book. Generally the issue is the SQ website and not married segments if you're not seeing results on a SYD-KEF search.

In September last year, I booked for September coming. Booked 1F & 2J to CPH and then a couple of days later, 3Y with SAS to KEF. All was done online. From memory the SAS reward flights showed up around 1 month later than when they went on sale. I did have to call SAS later to choose which seats (and had to pay)

If i book Syd-Sin-Cph/Fra etc when it first becomes available....and then later on, a Lh/Sas flight to Kef becomes available, can i ring Sq to add that sector to Kef to my previous booking so it is all on one PNR (for protection purposes in case the inbound is late)?

The problem is that you would be changing from an SQ only award to a *A award which could be an issue - but a good agent should be able to do this - it also may impact the taxes.

I can't recall - I did this last year and think they had to cancel and rebook - for some reason the new taxes seemed a lot higher - but I did not question it. However, the revised now *A itinerary included a < 24 hour overnighter in both SIN and FRA before going onto Croatia.

Cancellation fee is USD75.

Thanks Mattg, are they always able to marry segments if you call to book?

Just to summarise. I booked 2x Sq J Syd-Sin-Cph awards a month ago for 116K pts each when awards first became available. Today Sk J Cph - Kef became available....so rang Sq who added the last sector to my previously ticketed Syd-Sin-Cph....took about 15 mins on the phone, cost an extra 1500 Sq pts +US$25 change fee per pax and some minor adjustment of taxes. Tickets reissued within an hour. Already booked Sq J Cph-Sin- Syd for the return. Will book Kef - Cph separately as we will spend 2-3 nights in Cph on the return. Very pleased with the result. Now to plan the week drive around Iceland! :)

What was the KF points requirement CPH-KEF? I'm doing ARN-KEF-CPH in Sept next year after flying SQ from Sydney to ARN and out of CPH back to Sydney. I'll need to book the leg to KEF separately later, it'd be interesting to see if I earn enough VFF points to convert to KF to do this.

We fly CPH to KEP in September and it was 12,500 Krisflyer points per person in Y. We had fantastic weather for September and few crowds. My best tip for Iceland is to pay extra for a WiFi when you rent a car. There are plenty of times Where it is helpful to google attractions, roads, weather etc while out and about.

The weather/winds can be terrible, try and stay multiple nights at each stop in case you get stuck. Our last day saw all flights cancelled (strong winds) but luckily we were at airport for the next day flights which operated. Don’t plan on driving from Reykjavík to KEF if you have an early flight out!

Can you elaborate? We will be there in early to mid June so hopefully the weather will be ok then... :) geez car hire is not cheap...we currently have a Nissen Micra auto booked for 11 days for A$893 for 2 drivers.

We were there late April and on our last day, the wind blew out so much that buses stopped operating on the highway, airport closed, we were literally unable to open car doors/blown sideways when walking. Because we had an AM flight out, we stayed that night at the airpor hotel, literally through a carpark to airport.

Never experienced anything like it.

It is a warning that comes out in Iceland that cars literally get blown off the road, or slide off on black ice. They have a lot of accidents by people who are not used to driving on only a two lane road with no shoulder in terrible conditions.

We paid nearly double for a RAV4 for 10 days with ALL insurances and wifi. Iceland is awesome but really requires some thought and planning. In March, there were 244 km/hr winds - not a hurricane or storm, just wind. Are you ok with bunkering down for a day or two? If traveling along the southern coast, you really should have sand insurance as everything gets sand blasted In strong winds!

KEF is 45min from Reykjavik and I always planned on staying at airport to avoid at 4am drive in crazy winds. Very glad we did! Like Denali, we had a day of needing two people to open a car door!

Did some research about wind in Iceland - fortunately June is the 2nd lowest windy month - average wind speed is 9.1 knots (16.8 km/hr) and maximum sustained wind (the highest speed for the day lasting more than a few moments) is 15.5 knots (28.7 km/hr) which is still quite breezy but should be manageable - famous last words!
