General Medical issues thread

I have investments and all sorts of unlisted, mates run entities. Would be an almost impossible for an arm’s-length executor to even know about.

So everything written out, together with accountant details, contacts etc in a sealed envelope with my solicitor executor, with a copy with a rellie.

After reading this series of posts MY input seems a bit trivial! I had shoulder surgery 6 weeks ago... bicep tendon and some other stuff... I'm surprised that I am still getting fairly significant pain at times... but apparently thats not unusual. Much greater range of movement than 2 weeks ago so I assume that is progress. Allowed to take the sling off now for as long as feels comfortable. (YAY!) Still doing the hospital issued exercises.. Physio assessment 2 weeks ago, next appt on Tuesday to take the next step I guess. No doubt that will hurt...lol 11 weeks until the next trip. Fingers crossed!

Yay we found 3 more accounts - these are overseas bank accounts. 1 has been subsumed into General revenue of the govt but can be clawed back with the right details. The other 2 have minimal $ in them🤣
I didn't realise you could got those ones back that the government had , overseas ones, taken over
Only a few hundred pounds but mum did have an account with Westminster which I didn't bother about

Hang in there John, it's a hell of a journey tthat will suck up a lot of time and emotional effort.

Dad is home today. Sitting up on his lounge room sofa and eating the hospital lunch meal as he got lunch late in hospital.

Don't know where this is going but maybe dad will be more comfortable at home.

We'll see if we can start the assessment that @Quickstatus has mentioned.

Anyone have experience with right branch retinal artery occlusion? Seen optometrist and Opthomologist and local hospital ER for potential stroke (seems ok with low risk fac) but no real resolution of eye issue. Grey curtin covering top of right vision.

Weekend coming up so difficult to find anyone.

Any treatment or emergency procedures suggested?

This is serious. Go to a tertiary hospital. If in Brisbane, go to Royal Brisbane
Went to Wesley and they did ultrasound etc on carotid arteries which were ok, but no suggestion for eye issue. See GP and see Opthomologist in next month. Are you suggesting going to RBH tomorrow?

Did you tell themyou are losing vision in one eye
Who told you it was retinal artery occlusion
Optometrist and Opthomologist with machines and various images and result from Wesley ER. Not main artery but smaller one extending down from middle. Small cholesterol block.

Spoke to another specialist I know and since I’ve seen enough professionals today, his advice was to keep taking ld aspirin, statin and see how it progresses. Hasn’t changed since 11 this morning. Can still read ok and watch tv.

Thanks for your advice.

Seems like they don't sound too concerned.
Did they give you glaucoma eye drops - it's to reduce pressure on the eye and helps blood flow.
The other thing that people try is ocular massage to try to push the blood clot further along, so the amount of retina affected is less.
ER doctor wasn’t overly concerned. No, just cartia. Trying occular massage periodically. Thanks.

An article in the NYTimes re drug use and the world's richest man, included taking Ambion. Often used as an aid sleep for long flights, it is sold as Zolpidem in Aus as I understand. I remember a friend who started 5mg Zolpidem for travel, now needs 5mg every night to get back to sleep at home when waking up in the middle of the night.
Are there may be long-term implications of consistent reliance use of zolpidem? I wonder about the sleep quality they are getting.

@get me outta here . Why is the Doctor continuing to prescribe it for this pattern of usage? Seems like an addiction. I have a family member who uses it very sporadically and only half a tablet at a time possibly once or twice a month. It works well for them. I took it once and was like a zombie for 24 hours. Horrible stuff.
