rogerkambah, you are an inspiration to many AFF members who are in a struggle with cancer. I hope your progress continues and that you are able to beat that 14 year record.

I'm only 9 months into my journey. So far, I've had two head/neck operations, and, to date, 46 sessions of radiation therapy. I've got another 14 sessions to come. I'm feeling well and I'm in a very positive frame of mind. I hope I have lots of travel ahead of me.

In 2015 my GP had a 7hr op to remove a malignant melanoma from his shoulder/neck. He was fortunate to be included in a then new clinical study with new drug regime. Today he is doing well and working as hard as ever.
Wishing you an equally successful outcome.

@rginoz Quite frankly I'm astonished at the amount of treatment you have packed into 9 months.

I think mine pales in comparison, although I was at stage 4 before I was diagnosed. Interestingly I've never had any pain associated with this condition.

While the long periods of chemo, following surgeries, have been quite wearing, I've only had 6 sessions of radiation, which has been easy for me. However, the rad onco remarked today that the last 5 sessions close to the adrenal gland were quite challenging technically.

Its great to hear you are in a positive frame of mind, and are feeling quite well. I am too right now. I'm not sure I'll beat the 14 year survival record though as I would be 83 by then. Lets hope we both have lots of travel left in us though.
cheers, RK

Thanks prozac for your kind wishes. Much appreciated.

Thanks @rogerkambah. I've not had any chemo and hope to be able to avoid it, but yes, all my medical activity has been in a short time, and with minimal delay. I've been diagnosed as stage 3, but it has proven so far to be quite aggressive. Stay positive. Cheers, RG.

Update on the Teen. I’ve been submitting lots of OT and Speechie waitlist requests. A couple have come through, and we’ll see a speechie next week for am assessment, and an OT in early Sept.
I haven’t pursued NDIS yet, as I didn’t expect to get appts so soon (as in, before next year’. Have psych appts booked out fortnightly or so for the rest of the year, also need to sort some tutoring help.

I’m bumping down to part-time at work starting next month (just down to 32hrs/week).

We’ve also started looking at nutrigenomics, and moving the Teen to a GF and DF diet, adding probiotics and gelatin for now. We don’t think ASD/ADHD are caused by diet, there is a lot of research suggesting gut microbiome and brain linkage, so if some dietary changes help out, it’s worth giving a burl. If I hadn’t seen my friend’s children go through this, I would be sceptical.

I am a gut health believer. Fermented foods can aid in maintaining the gut microbiome. These can be easily made at home.

Another avenue to investigate is Professor Tom Borody who specialises in this field.

Ferments are in the plan. Just need Mr Katie (aka the family cook) to start reading more of the literature we have.
The centre we are working with deal specifically in kids/people with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as ASD, ADHD, SPD, etc. We are pursuing this under their guidance (not just self-guided or via a book), and while it may be a bit edge case for some, the founder is a researcher in this specific area, and trains biomedical doctors in this area. 👍

Ahh, first day of school at home in a year. And that's when I find out the pharmac_ dispensed the wrong dosage of Ritalin for the Teen. 10mg instead of 40mg! Paed is very much a paper office person, and I can see why they thought the handwriting was 10 ... but it's a stretch. And I got the script filled at a pharmac_ near home, rather than the usual one near the office, probably because of the last lockdown.

So, on 10mg of Ritalin, the Teen is a bit bumpy today. They really loved school at home last year, but it's probably a bit much to adjust to the schedule on the first day of school. I guess on the upside for their routines, we've got a full week of this (at least).

Will go to the pharmac_ this arvo to get the script sorted out. I imagine they'll say they can't do anything about the opened packet.

A naive question perhaps:
You can't multi-dose?

Had Pfizer jab last week with zero side effects.

Had a routine check-up with my heart surgeon yesterday. Everything inside the heart working great and I am doing well with my contraflow LAD. He checks my pacemaker whilst I am there. Atrial pacing 8%. Ventricular pacing 99%. Will be changing the batteries early on this baby.

EDIT: Thank you for your hugs, but I don't need hugs today. I am doing great, best I've been in decades. I look and feel very well.

They will replace for free. But will need Paed to confirm the 40.

She seems to have a high pain threshold, so it must be really hurting.
High pain thresholders always the ones with most pain.

The usual refrain" But doc I normally have a high pain threshold" 🤣

Fermented foods
Various. Are you screw cap or cork?

Isn’t that the same process?
Some fermentation’s bad for liver. 😀
I get your point though - I do like sauerkraut
Different bunch of bacterium. Do a small batch of sauerkraut in a large jar. Just chop roughly and add salt, you need to squeeze or lightly pund it to release liquid which must cover the cabbage to prevent air contact. Eat it raw as heat (cooking) kills the bacteria. Raw sauerkraut goes well with chilli. Try a small can tuna and chilli with it.
