No disrespect to all the views, but by now 6-8 months in this pandemic all of us have enough information to inform our own views/opinions.

Some of us will believe certain things and others of us will view it differently, regardless of how many opinions are posted of expert views, other media experts, politicians etc. Its happening all over the planet and I hazard a guess AFF forum is also reflective of that ‘diversity’.

Yes, it’s challenging / frustrating / etc when there is disagreement.

At least some in the USA are prepared to speak up about POTUS claims.

Dr. Fauci contradicts Trump's false claim that Covid-19 is as deadly as flu

"It is not correct to say it's the same as flu," the government's top infectious disease expert told NBC News.

...and from recent reports FakeBook and Twitter agree its not just a flu and have flagged or removed posts from their platforms in the last 24-48hrs that assert same.

So if the WHO reports that likely 10% of the population has had Covid, then doesnt that markedly reduce the death rate?

Something for AFF to think about, perhaps? 😉

Edit: Although that may upset a few of our esteemed members.

Ya really think because FB and Twitface say something or delete something, makes it true? (although in this case those sources are in agreement with the experts)

Is that what I posted about?.... “because FB and Twitface say something or delete something, makes it true?”

Maybe one of us should have gone to Specsavers 🤣

You may well be an esteemed member, Pushka, but my post was not referring to you. Sorry for the confusion. 😉

Edit: You weren’t getting stuck into that QF drinks cart, were you? 🤭

Well I didn’t think you were referring to me but I thought the reference to FB and twitface as taking action was kinda funny. Kind of a segue to the comment.

I just picked up new specs today!

An Interesting study from North West Tasmania. All staff that worked at NWRH and NWPH were tested for Covid antibodies.6 staff who tested negative throughout the outbreak had Covid antibodies. On the other hand several who tested positive during the outbreak did not have Covid antibodies. That is not a good sign meaning immunity is not long lasting.

New specs? Well in that case I blame that Qantas cart. 😉

The Victorian Coroner has reversed the earlier report that Suicides haven't increased due to Covid.Reported on twitter but it appears only the Herald sun is reporting it.

The link below suggests the 2019 figure was 718 (full year) and 534 to the end of September. This year to the end of September the number is 530.

Males YTD (2020) is 391, that seems to be where the 391 figure comes from. Last year it was 399 to end of September. For women the figures were 139 this year - 135 last.

Definitely in males >70 or <18 the numbers are worse. YTD this year the numbers are the same as full year last year in both age groups (13 for <18 and 70 for >70), but the 18-24 age groups seems lower this year, so I'm not sure how they get to the idea highest increase in <24 age group (57 YTD this year vs last year 77 full year). It sounds like fitting figures to a pre-determined narrative. The story you quote sounds fake news to me.

Of course these figures only count (successful) suicides, not the unsuccessful attempts, which could paint a different picture.

Yes that report is not at all in line with the HS story.

From that report:

Hmmm so the coroner hasn’t reversed any statement previously made (Merely released the updated quarterly figures) and the figures overall show his previous statement on the matter to still stand and they managed to find one doctor to make a disturbing statement based on opinion. What a total beatup. 🙄

Not much of a fan of Facebooks ethics myself, but when they finally take a stand on fake news when they have been reluctant to do so in the past, yes my view is the evidence is probably somewhat overwhelming hence forcing their hand.

A very interesting article.About 13% of those with severe Covid have a genetic abnormality predisposing them to severe disease. These abnormalities are not seen in those with milder disease.

More on how far the virus may spread in air.

And Americans are still scared of the virus.

It’s related to how much Neanderthal you have in your genes. Seriously.

Who is WHO again? Good grief

"The World Health Organisation has backflipped on its original COVID-19 stance after calling for world leaders to stop locking down their countries and economies.

Dr. David Nabarro from the WHO appealed to world leaders yesterday, telling them to stop “using lockdowns as your primary control method” of the coronavirus.
He also claimed that the only thing lockdowns achieved was poverty – with no mention of the potential lives saved.
“Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never ever belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer,” he said."

Too late. Again.
