Hi
Looking for any help on Gas Log Fires. We have an existing fireplace but not keen to go down the purchase of wood anymore. Have had a look at a few suppliers but have also heard some not good stories about after sales service. Issues with fans etc Also seem to be a big difference in pricing. Our existing fireplace would need to have the fire bricks at the back removed to make way for the new unit and if we are going to do this then I want the best job done that I can afford. So any recommendations or things to look out for I would be grateful to read them. In Melbourne so have been to Illusion, Jetmaster and HeatnGlow If there are going to be any issues then the after sales service would be important. TIA

The only issue with our Illusion fireplace was that after three years the remote wouldn't work despite changing its batteries. I rang them up and they said I also had to pull out a battery box inside the bottom of the unit, and change those batteries as well - which fixed everything. The heater is marvellous.

The people they sent out did create a lot of dust in the room as they belted out the back of our old wood fireplace, which took a while to clean. If whoever does install the unit doesn't have a vacuum cleaner, you might be wise insisting on standing there with your vacuum cleaner and sucking up dust where ever they are hitting the bricks.
Regards,
Renato

We had Fresh Liviing (Melbourne-based) install a Real Flame Captiva in our home a few years ago. Tricky as they had to run a gas line through the ceiling from kitchen to living room (our home is multi-storey concrete floor and walls). They did an excellent job doing all the necessary carpentry and plaster work as we had just a blank wall The unit keeps our house very warm (the air-con installed on construction was woefully inadequate). They service the unit every year as well and it has given us no problems.

And as you can see, it's very popular at the moment.......
