One used to be able to check in a 20kg standard allowance, but you'd get an additional 23kg allowance for sporting equipment.
It seems that Garuda has now flipped on this, with little notification, so that there is no longer any additional allowance for sporting equipment. As someone who regularly travels to Indonesia for scuba diving, this is going to be ugly. The one thing that made Garuda preferable to other carriers was their sporting equipment allowance. However they charge almost 3-4 times other carriers for excess baggage, now making them far less desirable. I wonder how much impact this will have on some routes, because on a lot of flights to SOQ and MDC, the majority of people on the plane have been scuba divers.
Curious to know what prompted this decision (beyond the obvious revenue raising).
