Anyone visited the G16 Lounge in Hong Kong recently? I'm travelling out on RJ in Dec - J :D as it is cheaper than CX in Y at that time and I believe that they use the G16 lounge. There are, however no pics or reviews out there regarding the lounge. Anyone got a review or some pics to share. It would be good to know what the lounge is like as I'm only QC PS and can't get into the Wing or Pier while travelling RJ.

Given that you are in business class on an OW carrier, you should be able to access the CX lounges if you wish

Dave

I used this lounge (it's badged DragonAir, but is of course part of the CX group) whilst travelling to Europe in J with AY about a month ago. I was there at breakfast time, and there was a reasonable light breakfast available (Chinese and Western). Drinks could be accessed from a couple of small fridges, self-serve. There was a selection of newspapers, nothing to get excited about, and wi-fi which worked nicely even when I moved around a bit. The connection was good enough to Skype my wife back in Australia quite smoothly. Overall it's not dissimilar in standard to a typical domestic QF lounge, maybe just a touch below this, but pleasant enough. The OW departure gates are very close to the lounge, and you are on a mezzanine looking down on the gate lounges, so you can time your exit from the G16 facility nicely.

Hope that's of some help....

Indeed, or even the new Qantas J lounge, which happens to be down the escalator located between gates 15 and 16. A very nice lounge and in my opinion just as good as The Wing and The Pier business class sections.

Depending on what gate you are leaving from, I'd take the wing or the pier every time over the G16 lounge. The noodle bar is excellent, and you seldom have to wait for a shower, unlike the QF/BA lounge.

I'll add my vote for choosing an alternative lounge seeing as you do have access. I used the G16 lounge several times before I discovered that I was permitted to use the other, superior lounges. The only time I used it after that was one time I was flying KA and only had 15 minutes spare between flights and the flight was departing from a very close gate.

I haven't been back to HKG in recent months to try the new QF J lounge to compare to though.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realise that you could use any of the OW lounges while travelling in J. I will have to wait to see what gate I'm departing from but will definitely give the Pier or Wing a look in. Maybe check out the Qantas J lounge if it is nearby.
