Bar Staff across Melbourne ripped off by thousands of dollars by a company called Employment Innovations who forced bar staff into unfair enterprise agreement or they risked losing hours

Some casual workers lost on average $6000 a year after signing Employment Innovations' enterprise agreement, an analysis of pay slips by Fairfax Media can reveal.

"I remember everybody felt like they were getting screwed over, but nobody was in much of a position to do anything about it," Ms Nelson said.

"If you didn't sign the contract, you couldn't get hours. They weren't going to fire you, they could just not roster you."

The loss of weekend penalty rates for EI's bar staff came a full two years before hospitality staff across the country saw their Sunday penalty rates cut by 5 percentage points.

But even after 2020, when the full, Fair Work Commission-mandated cut is phased in, bar stuff nationally should still be paid time-and-a-half for working on Sundays.

Workers on EI's agreement received an hourly rate less than the legal minimum hourly award rate – and no penalty rates.
