Further Status Extension to 28 Feb 2023

There have been 2 years of that already. For good reason. However, the Free Ride was long over I'd have assumed. :(

LOTS of Elites will not bother to spend money and fly if status keeps getting extended for near zero effort. THAT costs Virgin money.

I've racked up about 1200 Status credits in the last month or two, costing a lot of money, on totally discretionary new travel, to easily lock in Platinum again. Seems like there was no need to bother?
I can’t imagine they’ll extend it again. Things aren’t back to “normal”, but there are plenty of opportunities to earn status credits through flying unlike last year where most of us were pretty much grounded by state border closures.

Obviously not - going back through your posts, it seems you are one of the Feb 28th Tranche like myself - any SC earned from March 1st counts toward requalifying for the Mar 2023-Feb 2024 "year".

I had requalified so by March 27th for under $1K.

Some may be but not in my experience. Last flight of the day 9pm MEL to CBR for a Sunday about a month away was $360 in J. All J seats available for purchase. Flights to Cairns last month were also weelllll above cheap at $650 rtn in Y bought a month in advance. Probably just CBR tax perhaps.
Must be. I've been flying between MEL SYD BNE OOL for less than $80 pop for most of the year.

I think I may have had my Va Plat status extended by another year...my card expiry date is now showing 31 July 2023 and review date of 30 June 2023 :) ....first earnt Va Plat in June 2020 I think and have been extended ever since....

Edit: I now think I got the extension because of the extension offer below which I didn't even know about. :)

Perhaps we need to start a new thread -

''Is there anyone here who has not flown anywhere much for years, who has NOT been handed Elite Status for yet another Year?''

They will need to start issuing numbered tickets for the lottery to get into Virgin lounges at busy times.

JH did say she didn’t expect corporate traffic to fully recover until next year. I doubt they will let Gold/Plats lapse for the next 2 years.

Yep, me.

Since Feb 2020, I've flown 16 segments and five of those have been in the last month and five were prior to the borders closing in mid-March 2020. My review date is still Feb 2023.

Hopefully those pax with status extensions will take the opportunity to test other airlines which means they won't be in the VA lounges. They'll be saving money!!

My review date is also Feb 2023. I have only taken 1 return flight in the last 2 years.

I doubt I will receive another extension

I have flown Va a few times this year....the Syd lounge is a disgrace! Appaling food offerings....only the barista coffee is worthwhile! With my Lounge Key, I get great food offerings with complimentary $36 at Bistro 2020 or Movida. When is that premium entry opening again?! In fact on my last Va flight ex Syd I didn't even go into the Va lounge!

I posted in the other thread but still confused.

It would appear that people are currently getting their status extended by another year. My review date should be October but currently showing 28 Feb 23.

Am I likely to get another status extension until October 2023? I have 110Scs and may take a few more flights but unlikely to get anywhere near the 400SCs that are needed.

No.

Like me and all the other 28th Feb members, you have from 1st March 2022 until 28th February 2023 to requalify.

With 10 VA flights, using Double SC x Double SC and SC for Award bookings I had so requalified WP by March 27th 2022.

Yep, similar. I’m one of the 28th Feb members but requalified in only a few weeks and with the ease of earn I’m currently just shy of 2000 SC’s and with forward bookings in the system I think I may end up with around 4000 SC’s by time my period ends. Will come in handy to gift a few Platinums and fingers crossed for a new tier level 🤞🤞

Thanks @serfty but since Covid I've cut travel considerably.

There will more than likely be maximum of 5-6 return flights BNE-SYD per year and 2 return trips to Thailand per year where I'll look to offload my points.

I'll take any status freebies I can get but not chasing status with anyone. Not sure I will do enough travel to maintain QF Platinum but at least I have Lifetime Gold to fall back on.

Copped an email yesterday stating that my platinum status has been extended until 31 Jul 23! Wasn’t expecting it to be extended again and I’m pretty sure I first qualified for platinum back in 13 Nov 19. I’ve since not earned any credits on Virgin planes due to covid but have flown quite a bit with Etihad. Looking forward to taking advantage of this in October when I head to India and the Middle East. Don’t think the Etihad first lounge is open as the last time I was there in January it was a separate cordoned off section in their business lounge.

Got the email yesterday as well.

Given QF have just announced a further 12 month status extension do we feel VA will follow?

Maybe a 20% extension to match the underwhelming SC offer? 🙄
I agree the 20% offer on status credits was not appealing. Nor the double points from the last promotion. I feel the marketing team lately have no idea. These offers do little to entice people to book.
