Further Qantas Status Extension?

Had a recent, well over a year ago, look in the Qantas Pub at Syd international. I was not impressed, but nevertheless any port in a storm!

WHat about FF like me based overseas (I'm in the UK) who have no way of using Qantas for the foreseeable future as Australia remains sealed and locked.?Having spent years building to Platinum I would like to keep that status even though the chances of Qantas flying international again are very slim.

I really do think overseas members should simply be gifted another 12 months extension. It costs Qantas nothing but certainly the goodwill will keep members loyal when they can fly again.

QF will almost certainly extend overseas members again. That seems more certain than anything else in my view.
Now points balances.. that may be something else though..... (and I think that is unfair if one can't earn so hopefully they do the right thing there too).

Do I understand you think overseas residents should be gifted FF points? Sorry, I don’t agree with that. They might not be able to earn points currently, but I don’t think anyone should be given FF points.

no, I was merely suggesting that they shouldn't expire under the normal rules if there's no way to earn any. Not give any more or extras. On re-reading what I wrote that wasn't as clear as it was in my head :)

Ahhh…that’s a good idea. Giving an extra 12 months of no activity perhaps? Is there any way overseas members can earn points apart from flying? Would love to hear from those abroad. Is there a participating Woolies UK?

Anyone, anywhere can earn Qantas FF points via the Welbeing app. Micro points unless a valid insurance product but certainly points that will keep an account "alive".

EDIT: while the Wellbeing App can be used overseas, it can only be downloaded from the Australian version of Google Play/ App Store

I managed to keep my points going on a couple of trips to OZ during the recent bubble window, so I've got another 18 months before I need to travel again. As pointed out by LAT34 there are other ways but may be limited for overseas members.

While that is correct, you can't download the App when you are overseas; you need to download it before you head o/s. At least that was the case when I was last allowed out of Aus in 2019.

Jacques Vert, you are correct. I don't have access to the APP, even on my OZ sim when I am in NZ.

Seems a little unfair for overseas members to be gifted status again. They can't contribute to QF revenue but are free to use their oneworld status perks anywhere in the world at QF's expense. All while most local members are in lockdown.

That's interesting. I had no trouble using the App while I was in Europe in 2019 but +1 couldn't download it to her new phone until we returned to Aus.

This was on Google Play Store. Apple may work differently. Might try my Ipad-- not working also.

Ah ha ... support question from 2019 confirms Wellbeing App must be downloaded from Oz App Store / Google Play first 😥

Would using QF branded credit cards purchases overseas work? Say QF AMEX or QF St. George or something ? I usually use my QF AMEX Ultimate when I shop in India. Granted, I pay $1 or so extra, but that's alright with me.

A meal for 2 adults at Chennai KFC set me back by INR 500, which is roughly $10 and I think with the forex fee it was around $10.50 .. nets me atleast 15 QF points

Now, if the overseas customer don't have any AU QF branded CC then the way to go would be the Wellness App or transfer points between family members once every 18 months ... say send the minimum transfer limit points to partner or children and after 18 months send it back from their partner or children account to themselves :) This ping-pong should keep both source & target accounts active :)

That reminds me. I have to transfer my wife's points to my account before they expire, though I'm OK for now.
