VA to go fully inclusive with meals DPS/ HKT

[edit Trans tasman not confirmed .]

Inclusion of trans tasman services on the change to full service products from April 24, this does include flights to/from DPS / AUS and HKT / AUS.

Flexi meals are also getting a makeover, what has been asked time and again on here is about Y class meals on trans tasman. The big answer is YES, trans tas flights will be full service for "all" guests in Y class. There will also be a "light/fresh" menu for purchase items available, Simple snacks and spirits.

Good news for those who look for something beyond long-shelf-life snacks in Y (which I suspect is a lot of people - although trans-tasman does have hot meals for purchase already). I must admit I wasn't expecting it trans-tasman given NZ don't include food on all fares.

re: Full Service [F&B] for Flights over 2.45 hours from APRIL

Pretty sure this starts around the 24th april
Have a feeling this may be rolled out progressively and not all on the same day, but I think the DPS and HKT flights get the "transcon" style economy service* from the 24th
*inclusive hot meal and beverages
I believe other menu changes will also be introduced

Flew SYD-CNS this week, asked about the free meal. 'No sir' was the reply, 'just rumours. Management said it would cost $190 million a year, so i doubt it will ever happen.' What the?

Asking a flight attendant is not the best source of information!

That flight attendant needs to pay attention to what is happening around her or him. It was announced at the 6 monthly profit announcement by MR B himself. Though the start date was not specified to an exact date, just sometime in April.

Re: VA to go fully inclusive with meals DPS/ HKT

An update from the little bird indicated the trans Tasman is not confirmed, just HKT and DPS.

re: Full Service [F&B] for Flights over 2.45 hours from APRIL

I think no "meal" service on the golden triangle is a good thing. Realistically who needs an included meal on those flights, all day everyday. Much better to keep it as a paid service.

So far this year I've booked 24 QF flight ADL/SYD @$130 on average and [-]10[/-] 16 VA flights @$98. The last purchase I made on board was a $10 Luke managan pie early last year. Easily covered by my $320 saving so far this year.

Yes, technically ADL/SYD is not golden triangle. But let's say golden triangle +

Edited to adjust for VA flights. Spreadsheet was only picking up DJ.

Although I'm not so organised to keep a spreadsheet, I find a similar sort of saving flying MEL to ADL on VA over QF. (Is this golden triangle or golden triangle+???)

I take ADL to be a +.

I am thinking T-T could cause issues with the NZ partnership with their "Seats to Suit" packages.

First routes on the ‘free food’ schedule are all Virgin Australia flights to Denpasar and coughet, a Virgin Australia spokeswoman confirmed toAustralian Business Traveller. The airline plans to “progressively roll out the service on all flights over 2h 45m by the second half of this year”.
From April 24th.

And overdue and very welcome to start on these flights, IMHO,

Yeah, I suppose your right. QF must be upgrading their meal service on coast to coast for fun

Can't comment on the Perth service. Don't travel there. Can comment on the narrow body meal service here in the east which represents over 90% of seats and have not seen any significant improvements lately.

Fair enough! I just noticed my shocking "your" above....

Agree -- full service on 1 hour hops not actually needed.

Does full service mean luggage and in seat entertainment?

I only fly VA on my Amex flights so I have little idea of what they provide and I feel that they need some consistency.

Talking with my friends who travel only occasionally, they all thought VA was 'buy everything' for every route, and I told them that I think PER-SYD and possible MEL tickets include the lot.

PER-MEL/SYD/BNE along with flights over 2 hours and 45 minutes are full service in terms of inclusive food and beverage. Shorter flights there is still the BOB menu.
In seat IFE is only fitted on the A332s VA uses on PER-MEL/SYD and soon BNE. Streaming is being phased in soon, however we all know that doesnt really count ;)
Luggage is included on saver fares and above, however not saver lite. However on a saver lite fare coast to coast you will still recieve inclusive food and beverage.

TLDR; the VA product is a mixed bag

I think this post clearly demonstates the issues...........it may be as clear as mud to VA, but sane people have trouble keeping up with what's included and whta's excluded and at what time of day. You forgot about the Capital connect service as well....I still don't understand that one. Is it a complementary beer or wine on an evening flight and a newspaper in the morning (or something like that).

That mixed bag sends very much mixed messages. They're almost schizophrenic, unsure whether they're LCC or full service. All I know is that the prices are certainly full service even if nothing else is!
