Qantas
Gold
Hi All,

I've asked about this previously, I've emailed Qantas three times over the last four months and I've also called them twice, having just got off the phone with Qantas FF minutes ago - and I still have no answers. Qantas keeps saying they are "reviewing the situation regularly".

I'm a Gold QF status member based in London and have an expiry of Feb 2022. Till now, I have no idea what will happen to my status and if it will be extended, and it is beyond frustrating, especially when Qantas are well aware that we can't come back to Australia and we can't complete our required 4 sectors on QF metal. I have a few work trips booked on British Airways in August and September, and I could reach my required status credits to re-qualify for gold, but I won't because I can't fly Qantas now and it is almost 100% confirmed that won't happen for at least another 6 - 12 months. So what do I do? Is there anyone here with any ideas of who to contact at Qantas?

If I can fly the required amount here to get Qantas Gold - but it means nothing because I can't fly QF metal, why would I credit anything to Qantas? With 7 months left for my year, do they not see the frustration and dilemma this is causing?

You've really got two options here, wait and see if Qantas extends or switch to a different Oneworld program but either way don't expect action quickly.

I don't have a crystal ball (if anyone reading this has one, please reach out) but I suspect they'll announce something later in the year. Things have gone south in Australia (last week over half the population was in a lockdown and the once 2nd busiest air route in the world SYD-MEL had just one daily QF and VA service) so there will be many domestic flyers who won't be able to reach the requirements either.

Obviously, there are more important things to QF than extending status so I guess patience is key. If it gets really close to renewal without mention of extension then reach out again and you're likely to get a different answer.

I think you will just have to accept that at the moment they have no answers. Like henrus, I suspect they are looking at what their next moves will be.

I’m in Australia with a Feb22 end date and I’ve only managed 2 flights so far; and this is not for want of trying.
I'm also in Australia with Mar 22 end date and I too have only managed 2 flights so far, also not for want of trying.

I am feeling less stressed about this than I did last year. I'm pretty sure QF will want to keep their status flyers loyal, and will come up with something. They have been pretty pragmatic so far.

However, by comparison, I think that they seem to have forgotten about members that live overseas, as you say @hb13.

With respect - Feb 22 is seven months away. Is QF status the most pressing thing right now on your plate?

As others have said above (and I agree) it would be very surprising if there was not an extension - specially for OS members - again and it would have to come before the end of the year. It's a no brainer for them to do so and would cost very little.

If your UK time is longer term (I mean covid aside) then perhaps consider a status match or changing to BA or another OW program it this is a big concern for you.

Honestly though, and I do not mean any offense with my wording I think you're over worrying with more than half a year till it is a real issue for you and it will happen. And if it doesn't you can take your business elsewhere.

I don't think calling etc will yield any answers until QF decide to throw in the towel and admit defeat and do an extension again. I notice just today Delta has pulled the pin on status extensions. More and more will follow as this year draws to a close.

in short, I wouldn't worry about it too much as more likely than not you will get another year.

Haha no offence taken @RichardMEL - when I posted, I almost put "first world problems" before I wrote it, as there are many more pressing issues. However, here on Australian FF, I imagine this is an issue for many - particularly O/S members who have no way of getting to Aus unless we effectively throw our lives away overseas.

I'm probably going to direct my points somewhere else, I hope QF comes to the party and extends status at some point.

Hopefully my emails/calls "reminds" QF it has members overseas haha.

I'm in the same boat re Feb22 renewal, as in the "Further Status Extensions" thread.
I increasingly suspect Qantas will wait out a few more months and let people try status runs and other things to try and requalify, milk them for as much coin as possible, then around November or December probably come out with another extension of some sort. If they came out now, they would lose all the business from the thrusters doing status runs etc, so why jeopardise that? Plus literally half of Australia has been locked down in their houses for the last few weeks, and it's not getting better for at least another two months.
At the end of the day Airlines benefit more from giving people status, than we get out of it.

And QFF has minimal expenses these days in providing compensation to OW partners for QFF elites flying on those partner airplanes
So much for wandering

Overseas member status has been extended in the past.

And sure enough, Qantas will now automatically extend the status of overseas members (not living in Australia or New Zealand) until June 2022.

Finally! Saw this when I woke up this morning, which is great. I just hope however I can fly back home for a visit in 2022.
