We have formed friendships through many walks of life – eg schools / universities, neighbours, work, church, friends of friends, and through AFF!
As we are waiting and planning for our trip home later this year (fingers and toes crossed tightly), I often wonder how interesting these friendships have developed.
Hubby is by nature a shy and reserved person, while am tend to be a social dragonfly. I joined AFF over 18 years ago, but have not been very active in posting.
Hubby got a job in London 9 years ago. I posted a question about it in AFF and cove answered it as they have a flat near hubby’s work. Cove (and Mrs cove) introduced us to two young Australians working in London – Flashback and Mal. Through them and cove I met other AFFers like kpc, Jessica Tam, Princess Fiona, leadman, ausbt, Mattg – when they passed through London. Some have not met hubby as he was always busy working (so we can travel!)
Later we discovered that cove and Mrs cove have the same wedding anniversary date as ours. They lived in southern California around the same time when we lived there in our younger days.
Then we discovered that kpc lives just around the corner from us in Sydney. He used to go for runs past our house. I used to walk our 2 dogs past his house.
Every year we – as well as Flashback and Mal – look forward to visits by cove and Mrs cove. They would bring us goodies from home such as home-made Christmas cakes, Tim Tam and Arnott’s Shapes biscuits!
How have your friendships with other AFFers developed? Probably through AFF meetings? I hope to go to a few of these meetings to put a name to a face, after we are back home among the gum trees and the cheeky rainbow lorrikeets.

I have made some great friends through AFF while travelling about for work, pleasure and even just to attend AFF get togethers - while everyone is different - I think many members could get more from AFF by participating offline.

I have not only met 2 AFF'ers in person so far. In fact, we met on the famous OOL-MEL-AKL status run to Platinum. All 3 of us were either flying to get QF Platinum for the first time or requalifying.

I'd LOVE to meet any AFF'ers. If there is any AFF event, I'm sure to attend :)

I’m pretty sure I have said this previously but I can honestly say that I have gained friendships and experiences from being on AFF that simply wouldn’t have ever been possible without it.
It is hard for me to remember what it was like starting out in the site, not knowing anyone and nervously posting from behind my handle.
I’m so glad that I stuck around.

Love this thread. I was lucky to meet many nice people through AFF either in domestic or international lounges (first AFFer I met was @Hvr in QF BKK lounge) or through various social events. It’s easy to connect when there are mutual topics to talk about and while it was challenging to keep in touch recently I’m sure the glory days of travel and catch-ups will return big time!

ah but was it AFF or Cruise Critic?
Though don't forget the AFF inaugural Adelaide to Melbourne cruise the other year.
🤭. Three then. Well, actually four. The first one through Cruise Critic. Then two maintained through here. And how could I forget the Inaugral AFF one! Clearly JT et al haven't chanced upon this thread. Should we set up another one on the Queen Liz?

And would love another....
Have a short 2 day booked with Mr LtL on QE in December - Melb to Sydney - Princess Grill for a bit of a splurge.
