.... this is a biblical truth, IF would be right if he is saying that.

However I do realise that this contradicts Roman Catholic Church doctrine, but one needs to remember that Israel Folau is not a Roman Catholic, and the Pope/Church are not the leaders or doctrine makers for Christianity.
I don't disagree with the contents of your post. There is a vocal minority that want to shut down the majority.

As for idol worship we'll have to disagree. Putting up an icon in church of Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus or the last supper is not idol worship. Far from it.

I don't know about other denominations but Greek Orthodox is about as close as it gets to original Christianity and I fully support that it remains this way and no need what so ever to move with the times.

There is no shortage of people voicing their opinions that Christianity is wrong, not the word of God and only the beliefs at the time of the people 2,000 years ago. Wrong. It is the word of God and will remain that way for anyone that believes.

Mostly cowardly lunatic left keyboard warriors who wouldn't dare say boo about any other religion. Wonder why that is...

On the contrary I disagree with organised religion of most ilks, Jewish, Islam, radical Buddhism etc. I think that your generalisations of those who dare to question the validity of christianity are unfounded and indicate a less than christian attitude IMO. Others may disagree but I certainly don't lose any sleep over other people's rantings about perceived attacks on their religion. :)

So you want the benefits of Christianity whilst continuing to attack it. Hypocrisy much?

Yes, but it remains there are lots of different versions of the words of god...
True. Some have enhanced their beliefs.

I was reading about the Quakers and Amish recently. Interesting history of how they ended up in the USA and how they've come to accept some modern changes.

As it's Paul's list it cannot be called the word of god I would opine.

It is correct to say that Paul wrote this, and other humans did write the rest, but your opinion shows limited knowledge and authority on this topic. Paul's writings are absolutely authoritative - this is beyond the scope of this discussion, but you could google that and be more informed.

Of course, it's an interpretation. Last I looked there were 30 to 50 thousand variants of Christianity
Massive fail there. This figure gets thrown about by amateurs, but it is the number of christian organisations in the world, and in no way reflects "variants" in any way shape or form. Most of this number is independent small churches in non western countries, like africa, asia etc.

and guess what, the main reason they differ is around ''interpretation' of the bible.
No the main reason they differ is location, language, cultures.

The single basic verse that defines Christianity is, John 3:16. and anyone that believes in this, is a Christian. Now you tell me, what are all these variants on this verse? No need to look up 30,000, just give us one.

And yet the arguments continues to run that we should accept this interpretation of gods word as absolute despite the evidence that Christians themselves don't agree with this theory?

this theory has no substance at all.

It's really irrelevant though, the doctrines of Catholic v Anglican v Pentacostal or whatever doesn't matter to ones destiny or this topic of bible interpretation. There is only one thing that matters, a person is either saved or not saved and there is no misinterpretation of that

It is the word of God and will remain that way for anyone that believes.
Absolutely. the Word of God doesnt change for those who dont believe too. :)

It's almost ironic that Jesus - who by most accounts was quite progressive in his teachings and actions at the time - left behind a band of followers that are steadfastly unprogressive in their thoughts and thinking.

And that’s the point..

Why do atheists lose sleep over the idea of “going to hell”?

Confected outrage much. Or is it just the case of bully bois in the room thinking Dom? when we all know it’s a fine champagne

Quote of the day!

The big difference between natural human behaviour and and religion are the rules and rituals of the faith. That you forsake what you want to do for the greater good.

St Paul said “put aside your natural desires and follow Christ”

Back in the day there were valid reasons to ban particular foods and behaviours

Keeping you alive - they knew if you ate shellfish or pork you got unwell
Keep the race alive - maintain a basic standard of hygiene and procreation

Simplified I know but it’s a bit like why coal miners voted for their increasingly diminishing jobs - can’t put food on the table tonight without an income

Now, where’s that bottle of Dom?

We're fairly progressive in thoughts and thinking today and one can say that we're more progressive than what we were say 2,000 years ago. Yet society is crumbling so rapidly there may not be anything left soon.

I wonder why? Can't possibly have anything to do with progressive thoughts and thinking?

I don't think "society is crumbling so rapidly" as you suggest. If you were around in the 1600s, 1700s, 1800s or even 1900-1945 you might have a different view. Or lived in Mao's China. Or lived during the crusades. Or were Jewish or Homosexual or a Jehovah's Witness in continental Europe during the 1940s.

What is happening today, is that the perception that society is falling apart has never been greater. Bad news gets spread more rapidly (instantaneously) and is amplified significantly, opinions are shared more publicly and as bad news and bad stories attract more attention they get spread more and more.

Even trivial things we read about on here - like people putting their feet on bulkhead - once (pre-social media) no one would have noticed, and the only people caring were those immediately effected. Now everyone gets the chance to publicly shame and add their 2c worth.

More likely the advent of social media and access to ‘instant’ information.

Domestic violence never used to get reported. Sexual harassment was laughed off. Women dropped rape cases because it was simply ‘her word against his’. People were teased and bullied because of their ethnicity, or sexual preference.

most of this went unreported. But now it is.

So you may feel society is crumbling, But perhaps it isn’t? Perhaps it is the status quo. It’s just we actually get to hear about it now.

Not ironic at all, if you are going to regard 'most accounts' for what Jesus taught, you also need to regard who Jesus claimed to be in those same accounts - that he is the Son of God, and that he came to fulfil the redemption plan God has for us. By definition, a Christian is someone who stands on that being absolutely truth.

What Jesus taught, was not 'progressive' in the populist sense of the word today, it was final, and absolute. There is no 'progressing' left to be done. Not to mention he taught exclusively from the old testament.

for a Christian to be "progressive" now because Jesus was, is saying that they know better than God what is right or wrong. If such a person thinks this, then they are not a Christian. No irony here at all.

Next stage of the Folau saga has commenced. Unfair dismissal claim lodged with the FWC.

Some reporting claiming a win could break RA ....

Nah. What I'm seeing and hearing is sad. Society is crumbling in front of my eyes thanks to corporate greed and the me generation.

Interesting strategy to release this letter to the media while complaining that RA may be leaking to the media, hypocrisy much!

The main purpose of the letter seems to be a vehicle to restate this an issue about religious beliefs.
