I've been looking for a thread on it but no luck... has anyone figured out the best value (I guess closest to Getaway) Freedom fares are?
Bang for buck wise using the comp upgrades on lower cost Freedom fares is probably the way to go...
Good value PER to east coast or vice versa on their A330. Can be $400-450 Elevate or around $600 Freedom. J can be over $1200 so it’s good value for a very comfortable and relaxing flight

Thanks guys - I dropped from WP a while back but will likely get it back early next year. When I had it before I never once used my complimentary upgrades because it never seemed worth it... wasn't sure if that had changed with the new fare structures and rules etc.

Still seems like points upgrades are a better option... :/

MEL-OOL isn't terrible value either, especially if you use one of the usual discount codes when booking.

I booked some BNE-CNS-BNE for the double SC deal.

Phoned this week to upgrade them both ways for 2 pax each and done on the spot.

normally i cash in my free upgrades on Sydney to Perth, i go 2-3 times a year

With work I am able to book a flexi on one of the legs, i try to book it a month out and every time I have been able to secure an upgrade, I also check before booking if there are point redemption tickets as well.

Agree with SYD/MEL to PER (making sure its an A330 of course)... haven't had a problem even when booking around xmas.
Searching award availability using points and pay, booking a freedom fare, then calling the WP hotline straight away works a treat.

For this year got in with the double status credits plus SYD to MEL to PER all on the one freedom fare in A330s (140 SCs one way).
Since the SYD/MEL leg was only short it took < 5k miles to upgrade so did that rather than burn the WP upgrade.
