Free wireless in the QP

Thanks for the tip on the leakage, now ppl with expired memberships and can congregate in a small 2 x 2 area with leakage...watch for the upcoming battle of the laptops coming to a Qantas lounge entrance near you...:p

Well I used the free wireless in the SYD QP on Tuesday, but on Friday afternoon in the MEL Domestic QP, the telstra site kept going to the mobile phone login I was using to access the Accor hotspot. No free button!

Is Telstra being sneaky and not offering it to me as I (or my employer) has paid before?

Trust me, it's not a small area! I was a whole floor below the QP at an un-named airport and still managed 50 - 75% signal from the hotspot ;)

When I was in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam earlier this year, the Sofitel Plaza hotel in HCM (classified 5*) had free broadband internet cable in the room - I just plugged it into my laptop and it worked like a charm. I even talked to hubby on skype each day. I also stayed at the Caravelle hotel (also classified 5*) charged for broadband internet cable so I did not use it.

I tried my laptop at Qantas club in Sydney in February this year and the wireless connection was not free so I did not use it.

I made great use of it this weekend in my trips to/from BNE - a really great new benefit from QF. Sadly they have blocked the ports for some torrent sites I use so I couldn't download anything ;)

I have paid before (through my Telstra mobile phone account) but now get the free access

Has anyone tried any of the regional lounge - like LST?

Cheers

A quick check here:

Flying with Us - Qantas Club - Business Facilities

Shows that LST is not on the list for wireless hotspots. Given that LST QF flights are down to 2 Dash 8 flights a day and the occasional 737 for the footy, I wouldn't expect that there'd be much effort to improve the facilities. Given half the opportunity, this route would be fully Jetstarised and the QC at LST would disappear.

Thanks, but you forgot the 1000's of Jetstar flights that QFF's are forced to fly in to LST on now ;)

I should have been clearer - QF Club LST does have Telstra Wireless - just was wondering if they had made it free also in the regional lounges...?

I'll find out next week myself I guess when I head down there again.

Well here I am at the SYD T1 QC ..... on smegging dial-up!!!

Where's my free wireless !!??!!

It's taken me 45 mins to browse through the updated threads and it seems to be taking longer and longer. Hmmmm..... maybe the baud rate is too closely matched to my bubbly rate.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hmm I was in MEL domestic QP a week or two ago, fired up the laptop, unintentionally left my BitTorrent client open. Had a 180mb download left that finished in about 5 minutes. :) Gotta love that speed!

Maybe a little more experimentation is called for ;) Mind you I dont have any clinets installed on my work laptop otherwise I would abuse the hotel iinternet when travelling...

I had no problem in SYD T3 or ADL at the end of the week. Maybe the MEL problem accessing was isolated to that corner near the CL?

Doesn't appear to be free wireless in T2 SYD...

I was there last Monday and it was free. Make sure your wireless is on then open your browser. I should automatically redirect you to a Telstra/QP homepage where you click on this big icon to get connected immediately.

Interesting.

I was there Sunday afternoon, and the webpage did redirect me, but to the standard "Pay us money" page.

Maybe they fixed it...

Yeah, it was the standard Telstra Hotspot screen where they gave you 5(?) options to buy time. Entering credit card details was one of them.

It was different to the "You have free wireless. Click the button to access it."

Same thing I got in MEL domestic QP the other day
