So I took an early morning flight today, and found a $50 note in between my seat and my wife's.

Surprised the cleaners' did not find it. Maybe it was mine... but probably not

What should I do? Contact qantas lost and found?

$50? Keep it.

I'd turn in a large sum as someone is likely to miss it and could probably be easily identified from where they were sitting, but a small sum is just a bonus for me.

Having said that I once found a large sum of cash which had blown under a car. I had to get down and dirty to collect it it, but I didn't turn it in and I don't feel the slight bit guilty.

I found $20 in a carpark last week and wondered if I was being filmed by A Current Affair so I walked to the Salvo lady and put it in the money box collection.

For OPs situation.... I would think I would keep it or donate it.

I walked around to the local garage in London to buy the sunday papers many years ago. I was hungover and my housemate made be buy the Sunday Times. Clearly the universe was putting things into balanceas when I got the paper home I discovered 20 quid tucked neatly inside. No real dilemma as I was already home, and it paid for a nice pub lunch for us.

I'm another for donate it to a good cause. Qantas always ask for loose change so why not as it was found on a Qantas flight?

I had a bad experience a few years ago with money I found in the Qantas terminal in Sydney...after being given the run around, the final answer was that they put the money in their slush fund, and both myself and the rightful owner could get stuffed. So I'd donate it to charity.

Similarly, I found some money at work last week, and if unclaimed it does go to charity. Good karma for that I hope.

as a platinum FF , I suspecting $50.00 is neither here nor there, as some have already suggeted , give it to the in flight charity bag. or buy some nice chocolates and spread the cheer amongst the FA's on your next flight

Wouldn't they make any sort of effort to try to track down the original owner? If not, I would have surely thought the money would go to charity.

I am sure that ground staff would try to find the owner based on the seat number, but how would you prove it is yours?

There are potentially two potential owners, and depending on how long the $50.00 went undiscovered (1,2,3 or more flights.....) it may prove rather fruitless trying yo track the rightful owner.

They were very evasive about it, and given where I found it there would have been plenty of footage of the person who dropped it. It was a sizeable amount too, several hundred dollars...

I highly doubt it, whom is to say it was the person on the previous flight? It could have easily been there for several flights. It would cost QF more to track down the original owner than the $50 is worth.

If it was me, in some ways I'd see it as simply the universe paying me back all the money I've lost over the years.
Of course, there is also the change for good envelope, so if $50 wasn't going to be making much of a difference to me that day, I would be putting it in there.

Keep half, donate half?

As others have said, into the plastic square donation box at the terminals. Although you've left by now, so may as well keep it !

$50 should cover the cost of a beer at the airport :p

You could stick it in one of those donations boxes or buy something for the crew on your next flight...

Buy yourself a good flat white for $5 for being a good all round human bean (!) and then donate the rest to Fred Hollows or whomever.
