Does anyone remember when these flights used to operate, how long the flight took and how much the fare was?
 
No but I remember flying TSV-BNE-OOL. "First class" on an Australian Airlines 727 in 1989. It was a sort of transit flight from BNE to get the plane to OOL for ops the next morning and was only scheduled a few days a week I think. There were about 10 people on the flight and I was the only one in "first class". I think I had an orange juice :D The flight schedule was about 20 minutes but we were only in the air for about 12.

I remember it well because it was such a strange flight, leaving BNE at about 9pm and flying so low along the coast with all the lights glittering below.
 
I often used to take the Shorts6 BNE-MCY, about a 25 minute scheduled flight. Once a Dash-8 was subbed and the flight took all of 17 minutes. :shock:

Generally great viewing all around

IIRC, the BNE-OOL flight used to fly on to NTL.
 
Yup, often wound up on that flight NTL-OOL-BNE, the stopover added about 20 minutes to the total trip time.


From wheels-up to touchdown OOL-BNE was around 10-15 minutes depending on traffic and weather.

Dunno about the fare - probably made up about $15.00 of the total fare I paid. :)
 
Sounds a bit like BHE-WLG, although no quick alternative on that one thanks to Cook Strait. The wind direction can double the flying distance and time (northerly both ends of strait = short, southerly = "long").
 
A while back I was requested to attend an interview in Brisbane while residing on the Cold Ghost. The (French) company sent an air ticket despite me saying I could drive there quicker, but no, I got onto a milk-run Navajo coming up from Coffs and enjoyed a lovely scenic, if noisy flight to and from Bris (and did get the job).

I put it down to the French..:rolleyes:
 
yeah, there used to be a qflink flight bne to ntl that would stop over at ool. same on the way back.

the flight from bne to ool took about 15mins max and was at a very low atitude 7-10 thousand feet. nice view too.
 
I flew this flight in July 2004 to pickup 10 SC's to qualify for SG.

Looking at my paperwork it was on a Crash-8 and it cost $79.
 
Wow $79 was an awful lot!

That's true, but the train would only cost $10 or so...:cool::D Except it takes about an hour and a half.

IIRC, there may not yet have been a 'train' back then.

I'll check :)

The airtrain line has been open about 6 years I think. The Gold Coast line has been open for around 10 years I think. Before that, there were bus services to the Gold Coast from the airport

When the airtrain opened, I think the original fare was $8. May have to do some searching myself!
 
I was specifically referring to the Air train which opened in 2001 in time for the Aug/Sep Brisbane 'Goodwill Games'.
