Well in spite of the Best efforts from Red Roo, I'm definitely going to be SG come 1st September. QF made a big effort to enable me to get there. But I can't justify the unnecessary travel ( and cost). So this status junkie has decided to go cold turkey. I'm now BFOD from here on in

Not sounding positive, I have been WP for the past three years, and will barely earn 400 SCs this year. I will have two trips to North America booked in my new year, wonder if they may take that into consideration.

I did this as of about a year ago.. Went largely from VA to BFOD/H. Haven't looked back. So much cheaper. I did have one epic screw up flying back with JQ from DPS (pre-volcano) where they kept us at the airport through a 20 hour delay before sending us to hotels for 8 hours before a rescue flight. But I suspect this would happen to the best of them.

Didn't for me. WP for 9 years with only ~500SC last year ... had bookings in the system for >1400SC in the first 3 months for this year. Dropped kicked to LTG for three months and then back to WP.

All good as I knew I had the bounce back early in my new year ... Was a good test though!

Do not count on being comped. I was not this year and there are many reports of this occurring to others as well. It is not an official QFF benefit and the process they use is not public. So if you want to keep status guaranteed then do the flights.
I have now been comped 3 times but made the SCs required each time before the end of my year.

It looks like I will be short of SCs come 31 May 2016 as I have cut back on the commute, doing more award flights and more flights booked on VA. I am not counting on being comped. I will be booking some flights I don't need to make sure I get over the line.

Prior to my last year of WP I was comped five times, eg they sent the pack out in March/April for 31 May membership year, but like you I always made the SC due to flights in May, although it took a couple of days in June to credit with a manual request.
If I had a double, not 50%, SC I would have changed holiday destinations to ensure I made it. But I got 50%, decided to accept SG and also reduce my QFFP balance, but at the time of my downgrade I had two paid First Class TT bookings (one with 50% SC) for my next membership year that will ensure I will retain SG.
I know the conditions for requalification, I did not make it, so I will not complain. It would have been nice to retain WP but with No 2. Little Miss Blackcloud on the way in January, my focus is on different things. Who knows in the future I may go for WP again.

I have just been comped WP due to unable to fly for medical reasons. My year ended July and I only earned 510 sc. Very happy with Qantas at the moment.

Well a reprieve of sorts. The latest QF J sale means two quick status runs to mum in AKL will see me fall over the line with 5 or do SC's to spare. If the proposed (biz) trips to the U.S. Come off next year, it will not have been for naught!

Congratulations.

I get this feeling it's going to get harder and harded to maintain Platinum.

Yes with #3 having been born last December, I don't miss the flying that much. Its been over 12 months since being at an airport and only one trip planned in the next 6 months. I've have had the chance to see lots of the family and if WP goes its also a good chance to reassess which program to support for future travel.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

And my poor mum is even more confused about my travel patterns. I suspect she thinks I have lost it completely.

That's part of being this sort of frequent flyer isn't it!? I'm heading to the U.S. with my ten year old niece and my aunt in December. They're flying direct from LAX to MCO in Y. I'm flying via DFW in F. I leave half an hour before them and arrive an hour later. My aunt thinks I'm nuts. Mind you, I did offer that she and the niece could come in F too but she didn't want to, so I reckon she's nuts too! But it's 20 SC in discount Y vs 120 in F flying direct, or 180 SC if I go via DFW (for the same price).

And then then it turns out I'm starting a new job next month that involves regular international travel in J, so I almost certainly won't need the SC anyway (but hey, I'll get to lifetime gold that tiny bit faster!)

A few years back Mrs GPH and I flew F QF 1 return. We had MIL in tow. Offered to set her up with seats in J ( me paying difference) on a different airline ( special offer fare). She said "NO" so while we had a VERY relaxed time in F. She sucked it up in Y , too stubborn to accept that a bit of knowledge and experience could have delivered a far more comfortable and enjoyable travel experience. Not offering anymore.

With 24 hours left on my year, I fell across the line with 5 SC's over the required.
I am absolutely , definitely NOT doing this again next year. How you crazy people survive so much frequent air travel is beyond me. You deserve your status and should wear it like a badge of honour.

Platinum retain comp on just over 900 SC. Not sure what to say without sounding ungrateful. Thank you to the QFF team.

A comp I shouldn't need but since I plan carefully I should never need a comp anyway. So not wasted. To answer OP about a month before hand.

I just logged in to receive a congratulatory message on retaining Platinum.
I was sitting on 1180 SCs - so 20 short.
Earned twice platinum points last year so would definitely have been eligible on the basis of a 3 year average.

However I was waiting for 100 SCs to be credited from an MH flight KUL-PER I flew on Sunday.
So I definitely didn't need to be comped.
Based on other posts I've seen, should I email someone and make sure they know I didn't need to be comped this year?
Oh my review date isn't until 30 September.

It is pssible that neither of you have been comped ... I would suggest that post #62 of this thread be revisited ...

I agree the only way to really know you have been comped is when you get the new card and the letter is quite specific that you have been comped. I would not go by the account status screen on QFF.
IME no need to contact them as I received the card and comped letter about a month before the end of the membership year for several years, even though I would have requalified by that time or had made a booking to ensure it happened. Of course when I wanted the comp, this year I did not get it, I guess well below the 1200 average.

Logged in just now to see I've been Comped another year of Gold, sitting on 170 SCs.

Dropped down to Gold last September after 3 years of Platinum, was nowhere close to 1200 SCs that time either.
