It's unfortunate Pushka, they don't appreciate the work that goes into a good mechanical watch

Until I was 30 I thought the idea of spending more than ~$500 on a watch was crazy. Then after seeing a few friends 'indulge' I realised that, apart from my wedding ring, the only jewelry I would ever wear is a watch so I took the plunge for my 30th birthday and bought an IWC (well technically it was my wife's present to me). I marvel every time I look at the back and se the movement. I don't have any sons so maybe I'll be buried with it...if it's fully wound when I drop off it'll have 7 days on me! I'd love to become a 'watch guy' but I'd also love to continue being a traveller and unfortunately for me they're pretty much mutually exclusive. For the foreseeable future I am the 'mortgage repayment guy'.

Haha, yes I'd like a couple of new watches however the other half got me to buy her a new MX5 for Christmas so broke again.

I'm hoping to score another watch in Hong Kong at the end of the month, just need to make sure my wife in a good mood at the time, may end up having to buy 2

What a way to get on the watch scene!...What IWC watch did you get?

I have a Portuguese given to me as my graduation present from Uni, it doesn't get lots of wrist time but I love it very much

IWC has a very interesting history and is an special brand to me. It's the only big Swiss watchmaker located in the Eastern part of Switzerland and it was founded by an American guy in the 1800s

I know that feeling.... I was in NZ few months back and went to the local Rolex AD, I really wanted to get a GMT2. The price was right and they have it in stock, which is hard to get in Australia as the waiting list is between 3 to 6 months.

However I was with my GF who kindly suggested to spend that money on a ring for her..
I said.. hmm maybe I don't have the money right now haha

Portuguese, blue on white. I was originally going to get a Breitling as it suits the aviation buff in me but I decided I wanted understated classic design, fully in-house movement, 7+ days power reserve and blue is my favourite colour so the Portuguese fitted the bill.

Funny enough the highest proportion of people who have commented on my watch have been airline lounge staff. One was planning a trip to Dubai to buy himself one - I think I'm in the wrong job.

I do love the Portuguese. Thinking of getting one for my 40th should expenses stretch. I agree the classic understated design is gorgeous. Prob go the white face with rose gold hands and black leather band though.

The portuguese has been in my sights for a long time now, but I keep getting side tracked by the new tudor and sinn products.
