So that means I can't buy 50K + bonus in my account and gift 50K + bonus from the other 3 family accounts I manage to my account? They have to buy it for themselves to get the bonus 50K?

If you buy 50k miles for yourself, you will receive an additional 50k miles as a bonus, for a total of 100k. Now your account has received 50k miles worth of bonus, any new miles purchased during the promotion period (either by you buying for yourself, or by other accounts gifting you the miles) will not be eligible for bonus.

You can, however, buy 50k miles for yourself (giving you 100k miles after you get your bonus), then gift 50k miles to someone else (as long as they haven't used up any of their bonus yet, they will also receive 50k bonus miles, for a total of 100k miles, and use up all of their bonus allowance for this promotion period). There is no real difference between you gifting a family member 50k miles compared to getting your family member to buy themselves 50k miles, except some may argue that buying miles may improve your chances of being targeted for any future offers which are not open to everyone.

It's substantially more expensive (about 65% more expensive) than the share offer.

Hence the reason the 100% share is quite rare!

However one needs miles in the first place for the share option to work.

That is a little too long for me to wait, as I fly AA most of the time, I would rather spend the $US 1850 towards a real airfare, with status bonus and the routes and times I can fly, likely I would earn 60 to 70k AA miles for the same cost and also collect 30 to 35k qualifying miles. And then there is the question of availability when all these USDM hit the AA system.

Are you talking about $1850 towards Y fares?

Just did my two sons accounts to get 100,000 miles for $1881.25 US.

Cove, what are the most likely routes you would get w' 100K miles?

Only "decent" one that comes to mind is GUM. (Only other routes covered are Asia and other Oceania, but then the real value of buying up the redemption does come into the fore, especially when there is an incremental amount that you could fly much further).

Otherwise, better get a bit more so you can try the longer redemptions.

Hmmm, GUM seems pretty UNinteresting to me as I'm not fond of mould or beaches. May need to join up another person and get some more. Or. just wait till they join w' AA - if that works.

Maybe I can transfer to someone else who needs 100K if I'm allowed to, and it's not too costly.

On AA I want to do the run between Los Angeles and London (and back) in First. It finishes off my around the world in first plan.
