Perhaps it's only me.. but does anyone else get irked by (usually a dude)..sitting a couple of seats away, tapping his feet along with the music blaring over his headphones? Each thump of the foot resonating across the entire plane sub-floor, distracting you from whatever you're trying to watch/listen?

I often give extra marks from my ivory tower if they do involuntary air drum hand movements or thigh slaps

#endrant :)

I cant say I have ever noticed or experienced this on a flight

Not foot tappers but the guy who bounces his leg up and down about 180 times per minute gets me at times, like hes just taken a hit of crack and a red bull and now has to sit for 3hrs.

Had a GM that did it all the time, ran the Asia Pacific region, and once during a meeting, because he was knocking the boardroom table with his leg, his dad yelled, "FFS, Johnny. F'ing stop doing that!". In my head, he was always Johnny after that.

I'm with Denali. There are a lot of leg shakers out there and the worst ones are much worse than those doing it to music.

Also whistlers. OMG. What is it about some older men and their tuneless whistling in public

Haha, I'm a leg shaker - it's just something that my mind does. My wife get's the coughs all the time with me doing it!!!

Me too! And I take objection to the connection to crack taking ;)

Some people just have a lot of nervous energy that manifests itself this way. Although yes if its causing tables to bounce up and down some self-awareness is required.

I also tap my fingers a lot, or play with pens or similar.

I love to whistle :) (not so much in public but I guess I must do sometimes)

Does it make a difference to you is the whistling is in tune?

I agree with this completely.

I have the same problem in my office as we have a false floor (so services can be run below) and someone tapping their foot can be felt and heard metres away!

That's me. I've been doing that for a long time even when I'm at the dinner table. It's funny. Mum laughs. It's also harmless.

Now vicious gum chewers oblivious to those around them are a different story....

Foot tappers don’t occupy the pointy end in my experience lol

Went to school with a guy that took great enjoyment out of sitting behind you and tapping your chair leg until he got a reaction from you. Then it was a case of "me, what have I done, I wasn't doing anything........"

All I can say is that attention seeking individuals never change their spots.

That is all.

If it was in tune I would at least understand why the guy is doing it, although it would still be about as annoying as anyone playing any musical instrument in public in an inappropriate place - eg in the F lounge the other day there was a guy wandering between the fridges and his seat whistling all the way every time. I agree with Cossie - seemed to me he was just doing it for attention o_O

My question to the compulsive leg shakers is: are you aware that you are doing it? And is it something you can stop doing if you wish?
I always seem to have one sitting me near me on the tram: I stare hard and sometimes they stop for a little while and then start up again. Initially I thought it was just students and other young people, mostly males, but it seems to be more widespread thn that; in fact usually accompanied by 'man-spreading'.

Most times not aware. If someone says something I stop.

Is it part of OCD?
