I was in CNS at the end of march and it was dead.
Empty hotel, bars, cafes & resturants. And with the steady rain (about 4 months) the locals were going balmy with the weather & boredom. Local shop keepers were reducing or putting off staff.
But there is no remaining damage from the storms. Everything was fine & open.

The Japan earthquake/tsunami/reactor issues was a few weeks earlier and alot of Japan tourists had cancelled as well.

When I looked into coming up for easter, only flexisaver or full fare was available from QF. Not economical for the family of 4. Gave up for the time being.
But the hotels were empty.
Was it airline price gouging for the holidays or waiting for the next round of fuel surcharges...

Finally some cheap seats were released and I got some red-edeals for $1800 for 4 from BNE. I do notice that kids don't get the 75% fare with red-edeals. Is this a new change?
Then all the tourism Qld ads came on. I got in just before any of those.

All up a week away with the family on the esplanade. It will be hard to take.

Cheers.

You couldn't have asked for better weather for the Easter weekend!!
