Has anybody out there flown with a service dog before? I am flying to Melbourne next month and am a bit nervous about the whole trip. Any thoughtson getting me through it all? I only have bronze ff at present and am a member of qantas club

Hi pudmit and welcome to AFF.

QF have a policy on "service dogs" here:

Fly - Specific Needs - Mobility Assistance - Service Dogs

As long as it is registered you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for that info but that's not what I'm nervous about. It's the actual flight and how well she'll cope in the plane for 2 hours as well as me!

Ahh ok.. Ok how does she travel in cars? Flying in a plane is not too dissimilar, except the take off and landing.

p.s. cute dog!

Haha!! I think she'll be right then!

That is a good deal! Does she get FF points and status credits as well?? ;)

Lol I did ask but alas no she does not, but she gets to go to the qantas club with me how's that for spoilt?

yes she is considered a guest by qantas and the club very spoiled.just hope she'll be a good girl when we fly and not cause any problems for me or the crew or the person next to me

As I prefer dogs over people I would love to be sitting next to her on a flight.

I hope you both enjoy the flight.

I once flew from AKL-MEL with a service dog and its owner a few rows in front of me. They were at a bulk head and I didn't even know that they were there until getting off the aircraft. I was super impressed with the behaviour of the animal for the whole flight.

Actually, many a human could learn a thing or two from that dog!

Enjoy your trip!

U are all so full of knowledge and info, if only the hospitals were as accommodating as airlines!!!

I'd bet there will hightened awareness in a few weeks Brisbane - Melbourne and in the QP as AFF's look out for pudmit and friend. I think many of us took one look at the picture and were smitten!

I wish my little girl and I were sitting next to you. She'd giggle her way through the flight. :)

I hope you both enjoy the flight.

Just out of interest, when next month are you flying out of \ into BNE?

You may want to post your flight details in this thread and view the other posts to see if any members are going to be there at the same time.

As a lover of dogs (have 2) I agree that aometimes I'd prefer to sit next to them than some fellow pax tht I've had the displeasure of sitting beside.

I'm sure that your dog will draw her feelings from yours. If you are calm and enjoy it, they will too.
