Hello community,

Flying to NYC from SYD in December and have a single business class ticket from LAX to SYD i have to use..

I am a platinum member with Qantas and would like peoples opinion on best routes to get to NYC and back through LAX so I can redeem the ticket.

I am travelling with my wife and was thinking of flying Qantas or a partner airline and was not sure the best way to approach the booking.

Thanks in advance for your help..

Is it both you and your wife who already have a LAX/SYD ticket booked ie would the two of you need to fly SYD/NYC/LAX?

Do you have any QF ff points available to redeem? What about other programs or credit card points eg Velocity or Amex?

There is a Qantas Sale fare SYD/HKG/SYD for AUD709.00 return if you depart by 12 Dec 2018 so you'd just have to choose a return date within the ticket validity which you could 'nest' then all you'd need to do is position SYD/HKG on a one way award ticket for that trip.

You could then use QF points for a HKG/JFK award ticket on CX as the taxes are low ex HKG then purchase a commercial ticket JFK/LAX on a US carrier as you can't fly QF JFK/LAX unless it's on the same ticket as the LAX/SYD.

Yes to points and only I have a ticket from lax to Sydney but business so was thinking of getting two premium economy if possible.

Thanks for the HK route, I assume it's an economy fare for that price.

Will look into and thank you for your help.

Depends on day, but noticed on kayak that China Airlines have one way fare SYD-NYC for $730/$1130/2500 one way (per passenger) in economy/premium economy/business respectively, albeit with a long day time layover in Taipei.
