Ah ha! Thanks Arraitch and Danielribo for that geographic education. :)

hi there
should i booked my jetstar flight through qantas and try to use points to upgrade to *class?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can do points upgrades on anything other than QF. You would either have to use points for the whole booking for J class, or pay for the whole thing with $, but can't do upgrades even if with a QF flight number.

ok im looking at the flight from sydney to hnl on september 18th - both qantas and jetstar fly on that day.... would it be the same aircraft/airline??

i really do not want to be on that horrible old QF aircraft again....it was terrible! i want to avoid it like the plague... lol

Check the flight number, if it is QF3 you will be on the 767 (unless QF upgrade to the A330)

If it is JQ3, you will be on the JQ A330.

The QANTAS Source - QANTAS Boeing 767-338 International Seat Map. provides you information of the QF product (which you have sampled before)

where as The JetStar Source - Airbus A330-200 Seat Map. or The JetStar Source - A330-200 VH-EBQ Seat Map. will provide you on the information about the JQ aircraft you may be on.

Depending on budget, JQ "business class" may be an option depending on JQ and their sale prices.

The other thing about JQ is that seat 2D may be a bonus if you can allocate it on the non EBQ A330's

I would be surprised if QF continue with mainline HNL ops post August review of the network.

Whilst I dont necessarily disagree, QF have previously stated that the HNL route performs well (no surprise given the 763 product and the prices charged!) so it may in fact not be withdrawn.

Is anyone really paying $10k return in J on this cr*p aircraft to HNL???

My mind boggles....

back on topic now ;)

i like jq's regular 6pm departures form syd, it means a big feast in the F Lounge, get on board and try to do nothing but sleep, wake up and its morning time in the land of hula skirts .... its too early to check into your hotel so best to hire a car, head straight to the outlets nearby, shop till u drop, then drive into honolulu, drop the car off, check in :). car cost = shuttle bus cost so definitely worth it.

Friends have flow to/from Hawaii on Jetstar and Qantas and Jetstar was the winner by far in their opinion... No idea about Hawaiian though.

That sounds exactly like the three times I've been to Hawaii!!

I flew Jetsatar Business in March to HNL-gota good deal over Australia day weekend. it was fine,

Hi All

In august 2010 we flew to HNL with Qantas - the aircraft was dirty and extremely old...i had never before flown in an aircraft of this terrible condition..is it still the same case?

We are flying there again this September... as 2 adults and a toddler - which i want to have his own seat as he is almost 2.

Which airlines do you recommend out of Qantas, Jetstar or Hawaiian Airlines (Economy Class).

Thank you
Bec from Sydney-town

While I was at the gate desk last Nov about to board QF3 I recall a whole line of PAX with JQ BPs getting them swapped to QF BPs and looking very happy with themselves...any idea what this was about?

Jetstar Business (ie. StarClass) - for not much more than the price of QF economy (depending when you book or if you can get a sale), you get more room in a business class seat, newer aircraft, meals etc. Would definitely do this over QF economy.

Otherwise Jetstar economy is still a newer plane, whether it's cleaner or not is another matter. And you might not necessarily be surrounded by the most experienced or professional travelers (trying to be diplomatic here ;) ).

Can't comment on Hawaiian international, but domestic within Hawaii I've always found them good. Mind you inter-island flights are no more than about half an hour!

Travelled to HNL April this year. Jetstar - Star. previously in 2009. the aircraft are now tied need a good clean and in my seat in need of repairs.

Travelled from HNL Kona and Hilo HNL Hawaiian Air and had our bags pilfered, be very careful I do not trust Hawiian Air with luggage our bags were both damaged in there care to top that off.
Can’t get a reply from an email set to them re this matter. Any suggestions.

Call them, emails get lost too easily.

Was in same boat last trip on JQ to HNL as plane broke down, some pax moved to QF return flight to SYD, while the JQ (J) had seat in from of my face the QF had lots room (like normal J), both aircraft old and cruddy though. When I think of it, there were about 9 of us changed to the QF in J so there were many vacant seats to take us all, so I'd guess very few would pay the Qf J exorbitant fare (reason J was half full).

Doing SYD/HNL/SYD again early Nov. next, had no option but to choose JQ in J again, price was $4300 for two pax, at least classed as full J by Q so lots of points (I'm SG) and status ones too.
