Hi there

Flying Singapore Airlines A380 in Business Class with center seats for wife and myself.

I understand that, unlike Qantas, the overhead lockers are quite small for the centre row.

Where are you supposed to store your carry on ?

cheers

I doubt it will be a problem, the cabin is very spread out you should be able to use the opposite bins if the ones above are not big enough.

Yes the 1-2-1 configuration means usually there is plenty of space. Also, most of the seats (except for the bulkheads) have a compartment to store carry on underneath the seat in front. Whilst I don't think most rollerboards would fit in these compartments, they take fairly large backpacks and assorted other items. And if you are tall, this has the added advantage of being able to access hand luggage without leaving the seat!

And being SQ you can expect assistance in stowing it. So if it isn't stowed immediately one or two of the cabin crew will be along to assist. They will also redeliver it to you after touchdown.

I've now gotten into the habit of boarding SQ J earlier that usual. Give plenty of time to arrange things an start to enjoy the service.

OT: The times I don't board early is when they are loading the entire aircraft through the front door and everyone is traipsing through the J section. In that case I board towards the end. I've only done the all J upper deck on the A380 so not sure if this is an issue for you.

G'day

Thank you all so much for replying.

Answers all my questions.

Appreciated.

Just curious, but how do you compare SQ and QF Business class on the A380 ?

First time I have flown Business on the A380 with SQ so was interested to learn if there is any difference with those extra wide seats.

cheers

SQ seats are miles wider on the A380, also more crew per pax on SQ J.

General consensus is that you'll either like the seats or hate them.

Personally I like them, and find it hard to go back to narrower seats (I do like my wing space!) The advantage is aisle access for all, and you never feel hemmed in, even when you have meal tray down with the meal on it, you can still get up and go for a walk (to the toilets because of consuming way too much champagne or wine ;-) )

However many people find the seats too wide to get comfortable and too hard. I can see the point, and I've never flown to QF A380 to compare. But, my tip here is to use the leather support and the two cushions provided (one on your seat - the other you need to retrieve from where it is stored behind the seat) to get you into the most comfortable position when sitting. You can also use these to sit up when the seat is made up into a bed position, with the support of cushions and back of seat I've eaten meals and sat up quite comfortable watching movies etc in the flat bed position.

When the seat is in the lie flat bed position, the mattress isn't super soft. I also find that at 186cms tall, I am at the extreme ends of the sleeping space. I prefer to get a seat that is on the bulk head which gives a few extra precious cms.

I do recall my first flight on the A380 in these seats, I simply did not want the flight to end when we approached Singapore.

Echo the bulkhead and softness comments. I am told the newer model A380s (with whole upper deck configured with business class) have a softer mattress protector, but haven't had the chance to fly on one of these (and for that matter nor am I likely to).

I flew the all J upper in November last year, I didn't notice any difference on the mattress. To be honest, it's more of an initial, OK, this is how it feels and then next few moments the vodka takes hold and I sleep for the rest of the day.

Mr Mac and I have just returned MEL-CDG-LHR SQ J on the A380. First off, a great experience all round, fabulous crew and service, the thing takes off like a dream and lands like a feather. However I'd echo a couple of points already made. we were on top deck on each flight, all J. I'm not overly large and found the seats a little too wide. Managed to pinch an extra cushion and padded out the space, ok when I finally sat with my legs up. We were both surprised at how firm the seats were on the first leg, not at all pleasant, but it looked like it was an older plane. I did find the position of the tv annoying - it was quite a distance and I had to juggle reading glasses off/on. Not comfy. The plane from Singapore was a much newer one with more padded seats, this time we were in the back cabin and being smaller it felt much nicer. Plane very light loaded so extra great service. Returning, from CDG almost identical plane. SIN-MEL plane was jam packed not a single empty seat. Service was a lot like in cattle class to my slight surprise seemed to be stacks of staff but very businesslike which I guess was a neccessity due to the number of pax. TV was closer. I'm not imagining this, am I? How many changes have there been to the fitouts since the A380's started service?
I was very

I've flown both SQ and QF on the 380. As a solo traveller, SQ wins hands down IMO. The privacy and ease of access to the aisles for everyone is a clear advantage. I once travelled on the wide SQ seats with my wife (on a 777 I think). We had the 2 centre seats but she did not like having to reach so far to squeeze the life out of my hand at take off and whenever there was a bit of turbulance.

Were you in a bulkhead on that first flight (IIRC, row 11 or 18?) with no seat in front of you. In bulkheads the TV is higher up and further away, but are often considered prime seats on overnight sectors to due extra width where the legs sit (on a fold down ledge, that must be stowed for takeoff/landing).

Yes one leg was. But I also noticed - on 2nd or 3rd leg, that ledge was also evident and not just in bulkhead seats.
