Hope one of our pilot experts can help me out!

I will be spending almost 6 months in Mount Isa and thought it might be a good opportunity to get my PPL (or at least get started on it). Does anyone know of any schools in Mount Isa?

Alternatively, is there a way I can do the theory component by correspondence and hire an instructor + plane on an ad hoc basis as required?

Doesn't appear to be a "real" flying school... there DOES appear to be an Ultralight group... "Mt Isa Sports flyers"

Some ultralights can be registered as GA aircraft.. so one would think that learning on one of those would be a good head start??? Can't tell from the web wheter they have an instructor??

I'm sure with all the mining money floating about that they will have something - although some quick searches of the Yellow Pages didn't bring up anything.

Thanks for your help.
I might have to wait until I get up there and ask around - or walk around the airport and see who has offices there!

Google "Mt Isa Flying Club"
Click on Australian Aviation Phone Book: Aero Club, Flight School and Pilot Supplies and search for "Isa"
Lists some flying business at the Mt Isa airport. [seem to work better off the google link]
Air Fuels Isa Pty Ltd, Mt Isa QLD Ph 07 4743-4843
Australian Airports (Mount Isa) Pty Ltd, QLD Ph 07 4743-4598
Phone them. Airport refueler's always know who does what at smaller airfeilds
