Flying out of sydney next week (8am flight)

Hey guys,

I have a 8 am flight next week out of Sydney. What time is the earliest i can get there? I forget if the airport opens at 5 or 6? I think last time i got there too early and just had to sit around for a while. Also the reason for asking is my friends travelled (domestic) recently and they had their bags lost for 2 weeks and that has happened to multiple friends on separate flights / days. Seems to be an issue with baggage and sydney airport at the moment and i wasnt sure if its Domestic only or international as well ( I would really hate it if i lost my bags for a couple of days and since I am flying to thailand, I am not sure how quickly they could get it to my hotel (2 hours away from the airport).

I am sadly flying economy going and business coming back. Does checkin start at 6am or earlier for a 7:55am flight? I remember hearing people say to get to the airport a lot earlier than usual due to delays with security and checkin etc. I guess also a lot more checks ie vaccination status etc, so I wasnt sure if they are opening up the airport and checkin earlier than usual?

From memory SYD airport is open very early as first flights out are after 6:00am.

Customs/immigration opens at 4:00am.

I flew out at 8:30am last week, checked in at 5:15am no problem. Duty free didnt open until 6am, but i was in the lounge and not fussed.

Damn, didnt realise it was that early, I wonder why when i flew so early last time, they didnt open checkin till it was like 2 hours to go or something like that.. or maybe i remember wrong and it was 3 hours to go.

Was there any queues / issues with security or checking in due to covid and social distancing etc? Any problems with baggage?

Wife and daughter flew out on QF81 last month (a few hours after your flight) and it was relatively quiet.

Check in took quite some time with only a few in front of us but I think it has improved since then.

I got a message from Singapore airlines to arrive early for check in as there is expected congestion at Sydney Airport, But I am wondering if thats just a standard message at the moment. Wouldnt have thought Sydney airport at 6am would be that busy?

I know this is teaching you to suck eggs, but Hand Luggage Only is very liberating and much lower risk. And certainly do-able for Thailand.

I paid for 40kgs with JQ and I'm struggling to stay under.
