Just flew ZRH-YVR on AC yesterday and I thought I'd mention the Covid safety precautions on board. Masks had to be worn, properly fitted, at all time - if not you were sternly reminded by crew. Crew wore full PPE while serving meals/drinks. You were allowed to remove your mask while eating but not if you were just drinking (i.e. you had to put your mask back on after each sip). This was all much stricter than recent domestic flights I have taken in Australia and much stricter than 2 recent SQ flights.

You must be fully vaccinated to enter Canada and new arrivals are selected at random for Covid testing (not sure what percentage) and if positive you must isolate for 10 days !!

Maybe this is one of the reasons that Canada has a lower covid case count than other countries including Australia. While some might find these measures a bit OTT, I was quite OK with them (Mr LL are in the middle of a 10 week trip to Europe and Canada and both contacted Covid while in Europe - not a disaster but sort of threw a bit of a spanner in the works for about 10 days).

These measures are coming to an end on 30 September 2022. The Federal government announced the end of ArriveCan and vaccination requirements last week, and this morning the end of the mask mandate on trains and planes was announced.

The stictness of the enforcement is interesting. As we know, there are inconvenient government rules and then there is the extent to which they are enforced by various organisations.

When I lived and worked in Canada, I found it to be a much more rules-compliant society than Australia. For instance, waiting patiently for the ‘green man’ at crossing lights, even when there was no traffic at all and it was literally blowing a blizzard. 😊.
