Okay I understand straight away if this kind of query shouldn't be asked considering this is an Australian forum, but you guys have always been so helpful before and Oz is my home land :)

Anyway, I am looking at travelling from the UK (Glasgow) to the USA where I am going to travelling throughout for a couple of months. Initially I was looking at flying into San Francisco then depart from Chicago and I guess the way to do this is 2 one way tickets. This seems quite costly this way compared to a a return ticket to the to and from the one location. (Unless I am doing something wrong)

I guess the other option is to book a return ticket to the one location, such as New York, then rely on US domestic travel to get me around locally.

The locations I am looking at travelling to are San Francisco, LA, Las Vegas, Austin or San Antonio (probably both), Miami, Washington, Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Chicago. Obviously some of these locations I will bus or train to and from.

If anyone knows of the best way to go about doing this in regards to cost it would be greatly appreciated for any advice.

Cheers

A few years ago i flew Continental from GLA-SFO via EWR. An option to me at that time (which i didn't take up) was a free stopover in the USA on the way or on the way back. i.e. I flew to SFO on the way and could have stopped in ORD on the way home.

I also note that currently I've seen BA allowing transatlantic open jaws for 1/2 fare to each destination.

Perhaps this helps...
