Hi. We are looking to book an economy saver flight from BNE to SIN on Fri Aug 23 in the afternoon departure and then spend the night in bed in SIN and the following morning we looking to book an economy saver from SIN to LHR on the 9 30 am flight. We know that if we book straight through the points reqd is approx 41K. What about if we stop? We are not flying back with SQ as we are coming back with MH from Istanbul (their flight is $513 at the moment which seems great!).

Why not book yourselves (and your luggage) straight through but spend the night in the transit hotel with just your hand baggage? It's comfortable, quiet and inexpensive. Don't forget that if you book online on the SQ website you need 15% fewer points than the award system shows when you search for awards.

Yes well when I put in BNE to LHR as the trip (Leaving at 2.30 pm in the afternoon) it only gives me the option of the flights that leave at 11.30 pm from SIN, not the later flight at 9 am the following morning. I think this is because of the break in the journey for 11 hours. I can book this as two seperate flights but it is 51,000 points total.

Try calling and if it does allow it tell them couldn't do online, and they still might allow the 15% discount. If not 47,500 pts is better than 51,000 pts.

I had thought the maximum time for transit is 24 hours; longer than that is a stop-over. See this (old) thread http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ow-are-stopover-periods-calculated-28975.html

Perhaps just be careful when phoning to refer to 'transit' rather than 'stop-over'.
Yes I will call them and find out..the 9 30 am departure from SIN to LHR is a waitlist at the moment, but I can go for the later flight after midday and wait list the earlier one . I think I would prefer the A380 to the 777, what are your thoughts on comfort etc in Economy, keeping in mind we will not be sleeping as it is a day time flight.

In economy nothing beats the upper deck on an A380. In my experience, definitely quieter than downstairs, and you get a convenient good-sized locker beside you if you have a window seat. Look for the link to the upper deck when choosing your award seat; it's not so obvious if you are used to finding a seat on one level only. (Although I think some of the A380 upper decks may now be configured for more business and no economy seats.) But after being waitilisted you might come too late to make that choice, and the next best option of the mini-economy section just behind business might also be booked out.

I'm doing a day-time run MEL-SIN in May on a 777 (economy); back from LHR on A380 downstairs in the mini-economy section LHR-SIN, but upstairs from SIN-MEL. I'll be better placed to answer your question after that trip, but I'm sure others will have opinions for you meanwhile.

If staying overnight in Singapore you can extend you accom options to outside of the airport. Clearing customers takes a few minutes, your luggage stays at the airport 'in transit' with SIA. You could have an overnight bag and head into the city. The following morning no need to be at the airport too early as you already have boarding passes and no luggage to check. Changi immigration takes just a few minutes as well. Maybe an hour at most before scheduled departure.

Have a wonderful trip.

Called up SQ and they are happy to give the flights to me at 41750 with a stopover in SIN so long as the transit is less than 24 hours. Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion to call them.

Well done Ben - SQ call centre are fabulously accommodating - they genuinely try to assist you to achieve your desired outcome if it meets their T &C's and they will always honor the 15% discount if you cannot confirm your desired booking online.

Yes and it has made me very impressed with SQ. I am coming home with MH from IST as they had a $589 economy flight on sale O/W to BNE in Aug but their customer service in allocating seats etc. was not up to SG.
