I will have about 4.5 months of life left in my passport when I am due to fly back to Oz at Christmas time - is that going to be a problem? Departing CAI and transiting through DXB and SIN.

If it’s all on the one ticket with no stopovers it should be fine. Dubai requires three months validity to transit. Singapore doesn’t seem to have that requirement. I just got that through quickly checking on the dubai and singapore websites, but you may wish to confirm that yourself and get the appropriate links in case there’s any issues at checkin.

Here is the link to the FAQ page for singapore immigration: FAQ page.

Here is one link for dubai transit, but it’s the UK home office, I don’t think aussie passports are different though: Entry requirements - United Arab Emirates travel advice

So long as you passport hasn’t expired, you are fine to return to Oz.

Cheers MEL_Traveller - I'm not great with finding that sort of information so your help is much appreciated! I will chase that info up tomorrow - am getting slaughtered by mosquitos tonight here in Egypt!

Cheers SYD - expires sometime in May 2023 so will get it renewed while I'm in Oz before I return to the sand pit!

It may be worth trying to start the process of getting a renewal as soon as you get back, that stuff’s apparently still massively backed-up, everyone who didn’t quit now has 4 year’s worth of unused annual-leave & taking all that annual-leave is keeping organisations understaffed.

Cheers - yes certainly will be doing that! Hopefully I will receive the new one before I need it!

Sometimes it is useful to have a 2nd passport.
Leaving and returning to Australia should work up until the date of expiration.
Arrival etc outside of Oz being handled by passport #2....
Seriously useful when wandering
