Funnily enough that's actually the reason the Flighty team gives for not having an Android app - so they don't water down the experience by trying to support two different ecosystems. And, to their credit, their interface is really second to none.

I was keen to give Flighty a try following sad news that App in the Air is closing down.
Waisted some time on it only to find out Flighty app is only available on ios and not on Android(?!)
wow! that sends it straight to rubbish bin unfortunately.
Any recommendations for alternatives similar to Flighty and App in the Air please?

I tried also Check my Trip and Tripit and was shocked by low interface design quality and poor recognition of new flights from emails.

iOS user here, so not overly familiar with the offerings on Android. That being said, from what I can see it would seem that TripIt Pro would be one of the "better" alternatives right now. Granted it's nowhere near Flighty in terms of the UX, but I think it somewhat comes down to what you're trying to get out of the app? If it's notifications and alerts etc, then it's reasonably close in functionality to Flighty. I use both apps on iOS and find that the notifications are often in reasonable lockstep with one another.

FWIW, I saw a comprehensive explanation from one of the Flighty team detailing why they aren't looking at Android at this time.

Pretty is as pretty does.

Functionality is where it's at and Trip it works fine for me.

I also use Flightaware, Flight stats and Flight radar24 on day of travel.

based on what? this is the first ever case i found something is not available for Android compare to ios.

Have a look at byAir as well. It's relatively new so it hasn't got every feature yet but development is pretty active and it's definitely got the interface going for it.

I swear Flighty is having all sorts of conniptions over the last few days. From telling me my SYD>MEL flight was going to take 12+ hours through to the countless notifications of schedule changes for MEL>HBA and HBA>MEL when virtually nothing has changed, I can’t help but wonder what on earth is happening with their systems/database???

I thought it was just me! I’ve been getting millions of notifications too with 5 minute schedule changes back and forth. It also seems to be tracking QF domestic flights really weirdly with all kinds of invalid statuses - which is weird because historically it did well with them.

As far as I can tell, this stuff is somewhat linked with QF putting tracking in their own app. Flighty will draw on some database which must be airline originated. They've had Virgin details for years, but Qantas relatively recently.

I thought that Flighty pulls from FR24?
I have numerous upcoming QF domestics over the next week or so no glitches so far. Will keep a look out

I think that’s correct.

Flighty has finally sorted itself out since we’ve been in the air. At least I haven’t had repeated notifications about schedule changes this time

Oh, thanks. But there must be more to it, or at least where does FR24 get its stuff from? Info like 'Flight plan filed', 'Gate change' and indeed the type of stuff @DejaBrew saw - wild swings in timings. And when the app correctly advises of a schedule change a couple of days before anyone else.

I have a flight this morning that has already had a couple of “schedule change” alerts which have turned out not to be anything of the sort.
So far it’s similar to me to how Flighty normally behaves, when I first started using it I would panic a little bit every time my phone pinged. Have now learned to ignore

FlightAware / FlightRadar24 rely on the actual flight plan submitted by the airlines. The timing of submitting flight plan varies greatly by airline, some will do it multiple days in advance, some an hour before boarding.

The problem with airlines filing 24+ hours in advance is it's going to be much less accurate than those filing a few hours before (ie, will be subject to many changes).

There's also a bit of danger in Flighty showing your flight has been delayed several hours based on the tail assigned to your flight, only for the airline to swap the tails at the last minute and your flight is back on time. If you've taken this as an official delay notification and now relaxing in the hotel pool, you're in for a world of hurt.

Friend had the same "12 hour" flight on Qantas between SYD and MEL on Flighty on Sunday. Meanwhile I kept getting notifications that my Virgin flight moved from Gate A36 to Gate 36 to Gate A36 to...

Very bizarre as never had an issue with Flighty before.
