Hi All,
Very new to o'seas travel and hope you can help. Looking at booking a flight Syd-Santiago for 23.2.11 and prices on the Qantas site show one way for $2327, while a return ticket is just $981. We only need one way as we start a cruise from Valparaiso port.
Is it possible to purchase a return ticket even if you don't use the return portion?
Thanks,
Anna

It similar to "Throw away ticketing" and things like this have been done before.

Conceivably, the airline could try to charge you the extra, or, if you book through an agent (don't do this), sting them for an "Additional collection" which they'd pass on to you. However, such is apparently rare.

Return with QF for $981?? Is that right??

Beware of "no show" / cancellation fees but as Serfty has said you may be able to just "throw away" your second leg.... Ooopss.?

looks like $981 is the cost of syd-scl as part of a return.

you still need to select the return sector to get the full cost...cheapest I could get on a dummy booking was $967 so $1948 all up...still cheaper than the one way.
