SIN>WSI flights don’t appear to be bookable yet either? WSI not a destination option on the SQ website

Edit: coming this afternoon

We're booked on the inaugural ex WSI, figured we'd take a short break in Singapore that week.

Fares went up around midday and no issues booking. 915 return on a Lite fare was a bloody good deal, especially by SQ's recent pricing standards. Prices for connecting legs into HKG etc were also well priced.

Times are great for the connections into Asia and sub-continent, and the day flight on the return is a welcome change from the endless selection of overnight flights.

Assuming that petrol is available to fill up said flights, looking forward to at least testing out the new airport and schedule, and seeing if Badgerys works better for us than Mascot.

From a very small sample size search, there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for pricing from WSI vs SYD onto say Europe. Initially I thought it was about $100 discount ex WSI on both whY and J (CDG). But then the gap was quite small for LON. FCO looked significantly cheaper but FRA significantly more…🤷‍♂️ (for the random data I searched).

Unfortunately, ITA Matrix, Google Flights nor Skyscanner have yet come the party to include “WSI”, so I couldn’t do a broader search.

But at least SQ is showing pricing from both SYD and WSI in the one search and it looks like it will let you open jaw out of one and back to another - if there’s a compelling price or other reason to do so.

The timing of flights into WSI only suits Sydneysiders due to very late arrival time. I wonder how long it will last and what the load factor will be considering this factor.

Looks like for the Xmas period that it's $100~$400 cheaper to open jaw (?)

Plenty of Saver awards out of WSI in November early December with some days in the second half of December still available. Pity about the timing.
SQ202 I do NOT recommend as a flight to use miles on a Business award redemption.

1. It’s the regional 2018RJ seat, and this one I’ve found is a disaster for overnight flights. The footwell is like a coffin, next to no width to move and pretty much entire length of your legs goes in. Very limited shoulder space in bed mode. Not comfortable to sleep at all. Fine for short daytime naps, but overnight sleep, no. I did it once to South Korea and never again

2. SQ202 departing WSI will almost inevitably be a Sleeper Service flight if we go off its counterpart flights from other cities like SQ218 or SQ246. This means you’ll only get one meal, and it’s just a single tray of one main course and fruits. No garlic bread, or satay, or desserts, which are a feature of the daytime flights, which on top of that also get a second hot meal service, refreshment. Each to their own, but for me I value the full experience of SQ Biz, noting the italicised mention above, all of which are all cut from the Sleeper flights.

It's only just the first published flight. Lets wait to see what other airlines do before dismissing this!

I would expect the people in Y would not care one iota about the folks up front trials and tribulations if they live in the catchment and save $100-400 per flight

Not to mention the business people who finish work and want to go home asap but the earlier SYD service is terribly well timed for a work trip. I find these people (and sometimes myself included) also do not give one iota about the food service onboard if we're buying the seat to sleep. I've seen many skip breakfast as well.

The WSI - SIN will be reasonably popular with business sending people to work. As it allows them to bring them back and back to work the next day in SIN.

SIN - WSI is one of the few rare daytime flights so there might be some novelty in that. But personally i suspect the loads will be lower on this leg

That’s the point I meant to make - much better value to save a good amount of cash/miles and go in Y for a flight like this.

Ironically in Y for the red eyes leaving Australia you still get the same full service meal tray you do on a daytime flight (as a late dinner), it’s only J they actually downgrade the service on these flights.
